How about the Vivitar 35 ES? Has anybody any experiences with it?

Made by Cosina? How about the 40/1.7 lens?

On a good price it is a safe buy Mark.
Same camera as the Minolta hi-matic and others with a more prestigious name Wink

My understanding is it performs quite well. I don't have one but There is a flikr group I believe.

I have this camera and put a film through it last month. Results were excellent.
It was ntroduced in 1978 and is a clone of the Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII It has the f/1.7 40mm, six-element lens which has a reputation for being extremely sharp and detailed.
A nice camera but a little big and heavy for a pocket rangefinder.
Check the light seals before using.

Post some samples if you can.
It is actually not a clone but rather the same camera re-badged.
Cosina built this camera and it was sold under many different brands.
Vivitar, Minolta, Petri, Ricoh, and surely others.
As with the Electro the production run was quite large.
This fact made for refinements in Manufacturing that could be of benefit if one finds a later example.

I have Himatic 7s, but the lens is 45mm f1.8 furnished.
Is this much different than 7sII? I used 7s only once,
it did not have good contrast. Confused

There were even more of the bodies about, fit with a variety of lenses and variations of the shutter. The first generation was the Mamiya 135/Minolta Himatic G - supposedly designed by Mamiya for Minolta and OEMed by Cosina. Also sold as Konica C35, and under many other brands names, with varying lenses.

The followup was the Vivitar 35ES/Minolta 7sII/Revue 400SE. These shared the famous 40/1.7 lens designed by Elcan, their only difference is that the Vivitar/Revue replaced the manual aperture control of the Minolta with a GN coupled auto flash mode - better for flash, but without the dual use as a (unmetered) all-manual setting.

I own this camera under the brand of Revue 400SE . Very , very good results ! There ise a little issue : exposure is wrong with non-mercuric batteries, one must modify iso settings to have good measures.

A fantastic lens. I use mine quite often. The lens was a design collaboration between Minolta and Leitz. This lens is also used on the Revue SE and Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII. I slapped a vented hood on mine and love it.

The HiMatic 7s is the last of the big series; the 7s-II is significant smaller with a 40mm 1.7 lens.

I have 2 of these, but sadly they are now redundant since I got the Canonette.
