Hello all,
I would like to ask everyone's opinion in reference to an exchange that I will be doing tomorrow.
I have a local contact that agreed exchanging his Pentacon 200mm f4 with my Tamron 200mm f3.5.
I truely dislike the amount of CA that the Tamron produces ( this lenses is AKA "the lightsaber" as I saw someone call it ) but I also have read that the Pentacon produces some CA. Have any of you actually tested both of these lenses and if so which one you find to deliver better results? Does it sound like I'm doing a good deal here? _________________ M42 mount

Hard to say wich one is better, to me they are pretty much equal. Choice what is touch your heart, my choice was Meyer Zebra , due light weight, pretty and IQ at least good as than others. I still have zebra I sold Tamron and Pentacon. _________________ -------------------------------

I called the original Adaptall version the lightsaber due to the horrendous purple fringing wide open! Pentacon will be better, but is not perfect in my experience. _________________ Graham - Moderator

Ah! It was you who named it! That's too funny! You just made me hate the lens since then lol!
I did find that my copy also does some crazy CA, hence why I was looking forward for this exchange until I read some people complaining about the pentacon's CA... Nobody gave it any Starwars nickname though, so I assumed it must be somewhat better than the Tamron _________________ M42 mount

I prefer the TELEAR-N 200/3.5 over the Tamron and anything Pentax short of the K 2.5(for sharpness) & Star myself:
All wide open:
Shot in RAW & developed in RawTherapee.
The TELEAR-N 200/3.5 doesn't suffer from PF though it does exhibit CA in the OOF/bokeh region(green) which can usually be addressed in post. |

I have the Pentacon Preset 200/4 and it's one of my sharpest lenses. If you get a good copy, you'll be impressed.
I am impressed with the Telear-N from JohnBee's samples. _________________ Casual attendance these days |

+1.
I am also very impressed with Komine made Vivitar 200mm/f3.5 that I've acquired recently, but don't have any interesting pictures to show yet. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

This all started when I read a thread here where someone called the Telear a sleeper a while back, and so I bought one.
When it arrived it wasn't all that great and so I moved on.
Then, I saw another one on eBay for a very low price and so I thought why not and grabbed it.
Which turned out to be much better btw.
My first one which was M42 had a metal tab on it which seemed to get in the way of the mount.
The second one didn't have this and proved to be much sharper.
I never tried removing the metal flange to see if it would help but between the two I'd say one is a dud whereas the other was very good.
I don't know if I'd call it the best 200 I own, but its up there as one of the best.
Here is another shot taken with the same lens using a 1.7X TC @ f/8

That Telar does produce some quite awsome images
I went for the trade today - unfortunately the Pentacon 200 f4 had a couple of issues that threw me off right away - filter thread was damaged and the aperture blades were oily and would get stuck @ f4.
He then showed me a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 200mm f4 in almost mint condition - I couldn't resist it _________________ M42 mount
