I know a fair few of you use Sliver Effex Pro to do B&W film like conversions of your digital photos in Photoshop.
While looking around the net I came across this plug-in called Virtual Photographer, which is technically just a film emulation plug-in. I have been trialling it over the last couple of months and have to say I am quite impressed. It is good for not only doing black and white film conversions but also if you want to do colour film variations too.

Trying to get that slightly aged colouration

After playing with this I have saved this lot settings away as my personal 'slide film' preset

I think I might have pushed the aged colouration a bit too far in this one.

This is my attempt at a soft B&W for a friends wedding photo

any way that is a few, I did not want to bombard them all here. There are more examples, and all the before and afters in my review.

I've used it for some years now, and I like it... the effects out of the box tend to be a bit extreme - for the WOW factor - but as you show, can produce some really nice results. I love the ability to try out different 'filters' in b&w conversions, that's a quick education on how they work in real life. Plus there are some nifty ideas one can steal to use in the long-way b&w conversion via channel mixer etc: color shifts and so on.

And you certainly can't beat the price.

Virtual Photographer is amazing!
It's a collection of filters that everybody should have and use.

And it's almost incredible that it's free!!
