Well, my Kiwifotos adapter arrived and it's nicely made but pretty useless as it has no provision for activating the aperture lever so I can only shoot wide open.

Lens looks pretty good at 1.6 though:

Not bad indeed!

As I want to use this lens on my Fujica SLR I can't do anything to it to allow it to stop down on the NEX.

Wish Kiwifotos mentioned that their adapter doesn't allow stopping down. Sad

Nice IQ. I'm disappointed in the Kiwifotos adapter as well. I'm trying to figure out a way to jam the lever on the lenswithout damaging it. Member Arkku suggested using a piece of cardboard. Could work.

A small piece of Blu-Tak would work, but I'm not keen to do it in case it causes any issues as I will mostly use this lens on my AX-1 to shoot slide film.

When I made my fujica-X adapter for 4/3 I used a bit of PTFE to jam the lever as can be seen below. A piece of thick card would work just as well.

It's interesting to see the results of your 55mm f1.6 wide open. The results look a bit so-so to me. The chimney looks soft and the contrast is generally low. Also there is CA on the barometer gold rim. However, I have a Fujinon 50mm f1.6 EBC in X mount and it is absolutely dreadful wide open. One of the worst wide-open performances I have seen. It is so much worse than your 55mm that I suspect it must be faulty. I found the 50mm f1.9 pictured above much better.

Cheers Mark, I will try something like that. I have the 1.9/50 and 2.2/55 in X mount too, not tried them yet. I noticed the CA on the barometer ring too.

It doesn't say EBC on my lens so I don't know what coatings it has. In the lists of X-Fujinon lenses I see the 1.6/50 but not the 1.6/55 I have. Mine is quite a large lens, the 1.6/50 pics online show a much smaller lens.

I put a part of the stick of a waterice lolly. I do not know the real name for it. These sticks are apiece of flat wood.
It fits exectly in the space of the diafragma lever and it works ok.

I cannot confirm the mediocre IQ of the 1.6 / 50mm FX Fujinon lens that SXR_Mark has used. I once compared the 1.6 / 50mm FX with a Cosina made Rikenon 1.7 / 50mm and found that the tonal gradation in the Fujinon is much smoother with better tracing in the lights. The 1.6 / 55mm FX Fujinon is a very peculiar design with rather long tube, almost like a small tele lens, for perpendicular fall of light rays. It should be very sharp. Both lenses were issued in EBC and non-EBC versions, the non-EBC version with good results in available light and for portrait work (the Japanese favour light skin colors!).

Yes, it's very sharp, I got sharp film results with it. I don't know why Mark thought it wasn't sharp, to me, the performance wide open is very good indeed, just look at the TV aerials, no CA, sharp rendition, not may lenses are that sharp wide open.

it works really.. I do this since I got the adapter (last december).. yes it's a shame that the adapter doesn't allow stopping down, but otherwise it fits perfect.
