First, you should rename your thread title as it's really not clear Smile

Second, I gave an old Nikon (non AF) lens to a friend with a Nikon DSLR and we both tried to look for some AF chip. We ended on that same exact seller on ebay. It looks like it should work with most lens/adapter, but compared to Canon, the price is really extreme.

You can have a similar Canon chip for ~$7-8.

We didn't buy the chip, but by the look of it, it should be as easy to install as a Canon.

I don't think that this lens exists. There's an 85/2 ai and the 85/1.8 pre-ai exists as several versions. You can check against the serial number of your lens here.

Maybe it's been ai'd ? Anyway I don't see why it wouldn't work. Your best guess would be so send some picture of the mount to the seller and let him "validate" that his product is going to work or not.

You could start checking Bjørn Rørslett´s web page http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html. There´s articles The Circle is Closed:Chips to the Rescue, and CPU-modification of Nikkors : Which Lenses Can be Upgraded?

He is talking about custom made chips and fastening the chips with screws. There´s also Russian Dandelion chips availalable, which can be glued to the lens, I believe. http://filmprocess.ru/nikon_spec_en.htm

With what body are you going to use the lenses? From D200 upwards you can feed the lens data for nine separate MF lenses, and get matrix metering and FL and aperture values in EXIF, without any chips.

This outfit: http://legacy2digital.com/nikon/ claims to modify the lenses along with a mechanical linkage to the aperture but these are G-type chips, though apparently have a new option that allows aperture selection from the lens as well as the camera's command dial. I've never used them so I can't vouch. I have several Dandelion (G type)-chipped Leicas that work splendidly but record only the maximum aperture. Since the best of the Leica R's tend not to need stopping down for optimal performance, it's been a non-issue.

Rørslett used to have chips custom made and resold them but has since stopped. It required the cannibalization of a contact block and some surgery to the lens, the complexity varying by lens. A few bezirkers on nikongear.com even went so far as shaving down the rear element of Noct Nikkors in the effort. I guess some people have both too much time and/or money on their hands....

strong words against Dres. Nikkor Very Happy i adore their engineering, but could not risk to butcher a Noct Nikkor, cause i don´t have one

coming back the the TO´s question: it will work AI or AI´d is no difference and it will work with the cams without aperture lever 40 - 60, 3000 - 5000, too
here is a link in Berlin, following their link on their site, they show a sketch which cam /ens combination does what and
which lenses can stay mechanically unmodified, prices are reasonable - they also provide a download manual, what to do mechanically if needed

That's a nasty looking snake for an avatar. Must be an interesting story? Looks like it was just sitting there, coiled up near the water.

sorry it was nothing exiting - these are steel rings to fix ships/boats and it started to rain in that moment, taken some years ago during work in Denmark on a demolition site of a factory
