At the risk of raising the same old boring question again, may I ask if anyone recognises this lens? Branded as Asanuma, which isn't a name I've seen before. It doesn't particularly bother me one way or the other what it is, as the performance will tell me whether or not it's a "keeper". But curiosity has got the better of me

Its almost certainly one of this series -

Tokina (I think most likely) or Sun.
Asanuma was a distributor that handled a lot of Tokina products.
If its a Tokina its a later variant of the first Tokina Auto lens series also supplied in T4 mount.
I would say mid 1970's at earliest because of the rubber focus grip. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Fantastic information, thanks so much It's amazing that when you know a little about a lens, the manufacturer, the distributor etc, your attitude the the lens changes a little
I hope it works ok, because now I know who it's parents were |

Tokina were big users of the term auto-wide. We've also seen lenses branded as Sun, but which were made by Tokina. I reckon it will be a Tokina. But you've probably guessed that from the rest of my message lol _________________ Graham - Moderator

Thankyou everyone - you are like a massive organic encyclopaedia
I was also going to ask about a Hanimex 135/3.5, but I just found Graham's thread on that one (so he doesn't need to type Tokina three times in a sentence again) |

If it performs like the later Tokina RMC 2.8//28 it will be a really good lens. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

The RMC 28 is yummy. I have one in P/K mount. It's never let me down, ever. If anything it's a little too good. I'm selling mine as I found the Tamron has more character (which is my way of saying it's shite wide-open, unlike the Tok) |

If the RMC Tokina is great, these are not that good. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Thanks for the heads-up. I now can't wait to see what I can/can't achieve with it |

Thanks Martin, tbh that's what went through my mind, there's usually a reason why some lens look unused, may give it a try one day but I'm trying to rationalise my collection down to mainly mc/md and some m42 and the 24 is an Olympus mount. |

I had one that was stunning, really sharp, great colours and contrast.

ill be glad to see how your copy behaves, and see if this is the lens character or something else?
its a good lens and 2.8 is handy indoors. |
