I seem to have lost my ability for sharp images from this lens.I think these are ok for subject matter and how close I got, but wish they were sharper.I know a tripod would help but setting it up near these birds may scare them...however I may try and "pre set" the tripod up as I know they feed here regularly (for a little while at least).

#1 The way the Parrots sit on this bush with ease amazes me, as it has some pretty nasty thorns...I trim the bush back so I know just how sharp these thorns are.

#7 These last few I came around behind the parrots with the sun behind me.I was sitting down as well so it helped steady my hands.

500mm is a serious focal length not easy to capture sharp images bellow 1/1000. I love these pictures!

Well done, Mo!.
Did you use a tripod or are them handheld?

Regards.
Jes.

I think it's easier to get sharp photos with this lens handheld than with a typical tripod.

Shame about the sharpness problem you're having, they'd have been truly stunning! How blessed you are to have such beautiful birds over there Cool

Jes, I always use this lens handheld as this lens is so light....I have yet to try it on a tripod...it came with the tripod mount ring attachment.

Graham you are right we are blessed to have these pretty birds at hand to photograph. There are a few little birds like finches that hang around in the tops of the trees that I want to photograph but they move way too fast! But I will still keep on trying.

For web use these are sharp enough.

I like the colours in this bird and prefer the later ones without the ugly bokeh.

They're fantastic for a super-tele at those shutter speeds, an advertisement for in-body IS.
