Hello everyone,

First my apologies for the English.
I've been looking for acheap f2.8 135mm manual focus lens . I have seen on the Internet many cheap quality lenses , but are hard to find at an affordable price.
I started by buying a cheap lens and "9 €" to do some testing.
I was surprised when I found that this lens is quite good, I did not expect such a quality in a lens so cheap and with very little information available.

The lens is an Japanese, Optomax, 135mm f2.8.
I have found some information about "AUTO" Optomax on the internet, but my lens is different from all other Optomax I have seen.

I'll get some photos taken with this lens on my canon 550D to see your opinion.

It seems very "sharpness not edited"

I am familiar with that lens also known as a dollands-s was made under many guises; 15-16 aperture blades on that lens its quite good tbh

This lens was distributed by Aico and also appears under the Vivitar brand. In fact, I believe it's part of the same family as my Vivitar 85/1.8 which has gorgeous bokeh.

This is excellent information about the family of this lens!
I have gotten great results with this lens, I will show more results soon!

This lens at f4 is superb, I am quite satisfied with it, I was lucky with the first choice for a 135 m42 Smile

hrmm my REVUENON-SPECIAL (sic) looks pretty similar - little can design, metal ||||||| gripping, color inks and all

however
- the aperture ring is below the grip; the grip is much longer, however screw visible too
- the DOF is wider spaced
- 10/3 8/2.5 not 2.2
- it got hexagonal aperture hole
- the ring labeling (apart from maker of course) looks similar (even "No.") but the "2.8" seems wider spaced.

Eh, maybe it's not even the same optics - well someone said there are no bad 135ers. Can you screw off the front element on yours ?

I won an Optomax 135/2.8 on ebay this week, it arrived today but I haven't had a chance to get out with it yet.
It doesn't look like the OP's though;

I have seen lenses in that style (with the red triangle and aperture at the front) sold as Itoh Higon.

Optomax seemed to have sold all manner of lenses, I have seen so many different ones labelled Optomax, for instance, there are at least 4 or 5 3.5/35s with the Optomax label, I've had 3, all crap.

OK .. not a very recognized brand, but with acceptable results.
This is not the top lens results, but it is acceptable to the price.
You can do it very good pictures and movies with this lens.

Filming test with Canon 550D and “OPTOMAX 135mm F2.8″:

As requested, a few samples taken today. All shot in RAW and exported from Lr4 to jpeg with no pp whatsoever.
Optomax 135/2.8
@f2.8

@f4

@f5.6

Then a couple at f5.6 with 100% crops;

and my first BIF with an mf lens Surprised

(not bad for a first attempt Bob Wink )

I bought the lens together with a clean Pentacon 50/1.8 on Ebay for £15, quite pleased with that. Smile

OOH, it is laser sharp at 5.6, great shot of the cat! The BIF is good too, I am useless at them so rarely try.
