Mount conversion to M42 done (reversible) via fabricated M42 mount bought from Pete Ganzel. The switching of mount was fast, and easy . A very well made mount.

Image of lens with M42 mount:

with M42 to Sony/Minolta AF mount;

Lens bought through local newspaper advertisement, hood from Keh Camera.

Some images taken @ f1.2 on an overcast day ,dull day.

Images @ f1.2 taken indoors in available light

taken @f1.2 with a 60W lamp ceiling lamp and available light from window.

Adios Muchachos Very Happy

Well done!. Results are really promising...
Would you mean that there is a M42 direct replacement for the Rokkor-X lenses to turn them into M42?
Could you please post more details?. I own a nice 50mm f/1.7 Rokkor-X that I like very much and could be a nice improvement to have it converted to M42 permanently.
Thanks in advance.

Jes.

Thank you Jes.
This is the MC Rokkor nor Rokkor-X. I have not opened up the Rokkor-X before so I dont know if they share similar insides. I have seen images of one converted 45mm f2 Rokkor-X on his PAGE -converted to Sony Alpha.

To answer the main part of your question- Yes I bought a kit from Pete of a fabricated (modified M42 Mount) that replaces the Rokkor mount on this lens. Its a matter of unscrewing 4 screws , and removing the old mount . The M42 has been machined so the thickness and circumference of the M42 mount has been resized to fit in the place of the old mount. He provides you shims for the mount so you can adjust the lens for infinity.

On this Rokkor- the aperture coupling tang had to be sanded down or clipped a little bit so it dod not get stuck on the secondary adapter (which in my case was the M42 to Sony Alpha), so as the aperture ring moves smoothly. Very Happy . This is because the M42 registration distance is approx 1.5mm less than the MD/MC mount , and will have a second adapter (the M42 to Sony AF) on it. An alternative I could have shaved around the circumference of the secondary adapter( the M42/ Sony AF) to make room for the menttioned aperture ring tang ,without having to clip or shave it down.

Pete explains all of this very well in the instruction sheet he provides with his kit.

The only other mount I have seen made that I like better , is one fabricated /machined (CNC)out of an aluminum block. There probably are other cheaper/cruder alternatives -like mounting a M42/Sony AF adapter directly with some shims underneath .. again this is in the case of adapting it to Sony Alpha mount directly. These work well too if you're limited with what you have , as an alternative and you may need to open up the lens to compensate/adjust for infinity elsewhere.

I hope this helps in some way. I cannot say much about your particular lens since I have not opened the back myself.

Much regards

BTW- Nice hat Jes-is that some kind of fur? Very Happy

Thanks for such a long explanation. It's clear to me now Smile
Regarding the hat is my wolf-hat for extreme cold Wink. This year we're suffering tempeeratures below 0ºC that is quite unusual here, so we had to upgrade ourselves to a new clothing fot the situation. Wink
As soon as the weather improves, I'll be taking it off. Smile

Again, thanks!.

I don't think this would be an easy lens to convert, because the mount screws are in the side not the bottom of the lens.

Good point. There are atleast 3 Rokkor X 50 1.7 lenses. The MD version with bottom mount screws and the MC Rokkor X version with side mount screws.
