Hmm, not sure about this lens, it is sometimes sharp, sometimes soft, seems to suffer quite a lot of purple fringing but bokeh is very smooth and I like the overall rendering. These were all at f4, f5.6 or f8, light was not great but not bad:

Yes, it's not great, not bad, somewhere in that 'average' middle-ground. If you don't mind correcting some CA this is a good lens I think, needs to be closed to f8 or f11 I think for best results.

Not keeping it as I have the Konica UC 4/80-200 and Mamiya 3.8/80-200 that are both described as outstanding.

I think that it is made by Tokina.

Yes, it is Tokina made and was also sold as an AT-X Tokina lens.

Here's some stitched shots that have had PP applied. Results from this lens at distance at f8 after PP are pretty good.

Still can't compete with a good prime lens though.

You did develop best results what was possible in bad light and with an average lens.

Cheers. The bad light was indeed a handicap, even a top lens would have had difficulty. Maybe we will get some sunshine before the snow melts...

My guess this RMC Tokina was made in the highest number of all Japanese manual focus lenses.

Thanks. It has to be closed to f8 because of the CA which is quite strong on highlights.

I tried a Soligor 70-150 today that has less CA and is all-round probably slightly better than this Rolleinar.

Ian did you check all elements are free from condensation residues? I've seen quite a few these Tokinas in different mounts and there is at least 50% chance of internal haze / fogging. Try holding it towards strong light and change angles to inspect it.

It looks clear to me, and it has good contrast and sharpness so I'm sure it's fine.

Mostly samples are fine but that #4 and #6 purple fringing really kicks in thus i was wandering.
