Jupiter 3 - weird results

Got myself a Jupiter 3. Seems like a cool lens, but has some intense purple fringing over some highlights when pictures are taken in the dark. The fringing seems to appear over highlights that are "cooler" in color.

Bum lens or something else here?

Most lens does has chromatic aberration in the edge of bright areas. Get a good APO lens if you want to reduce the notable purple fringing.

Nothing wrong with it - and actually your samples look good.
The Jupiter -3 is a very old design (derived from 1.5/5cm Sonnar from before 1938) and you should not expect miracles with it in such difficult light conditions.

It's a nice lens if you know its limitations and learn how to avoid them.

Take captures with another lens in same light same aperture and look. Even my Carl Zeiss Planar 85mm f1.4 has purple fringing and Olympus OM 90mm f2.0 if I wish to demonstrate it. Your lens is fine.

It looks ok to me.

sounds good in this case. I just have never seen such fringing before with any lens, but I have never used a lens wider than 1.8.

I am rather happy with the jupiter otherwise, just wanted to make sure that fringing was not a defect of this particular specimen. Jupiter 3 seems like a rather uncommon lens, so finding information about it on the net is not that easy.
