Enlarger Lens - Hoya Super EL 50/2.8

I was given this today along with a Pentacon 50/1.8 (I was most happy about the latter).

I know nothing about them, but I have seen a few people on this forum using enlarger lenses on DSLR's. Are they any good? What are they best at? A Google search only really shows me macro images from a reverse mounted lens.

It seems to be a standard M39 (Leica?) thread, so I presume that on a Crop sensor Canon, that all I need is an M39 to EOS adaptor? Are there any issues with image size, mirror clearance etc?

On my Pentax/Samsung, a 50mm enlarger lens give infinity focus screwed right in to the M42 adaptor (with M39-M42 ring).

They're FABULOUS on a bellows or extension tubes for macro type stuff. Enlarger lenses are fully corrected for flat field, so particularly good for copying negs, photos, etc.

Over the years I've found that it's actually quite difficult to find a truly poor quality enlarger lens, bar the nasty ones that came free with a plastic enlarger.

Have a muck about, you'll be thrilled with the definition.

I forsee Bellows and a stepping ring in my near future. I was mucking about with Macro the other night, and although I can get the magnification, it's going through so many lenses and adaptors that the IQ was awful.
