Can you recommend 100 - 150 mm lens with a miminal aperture f2.8 in m42 or OM mount? The price on ebay.us shouldn't be more than 160$ .
I was told that Meyer Görlitz and Pentacon 100/2.8 are good, but read here somewhere that the Pentacon is awfully built. I don't like Pentacon lenses as is because every one I had had a stiff focus.
Also, saw some great examples of Zuiko 100/2.8 in OM mount, but it's a bit too expensive for me.

Pentax lenses have always been good. They should be easy to find, and cheap. 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, 150mm etc.

I dont think the 85, 100, 120, 150 of pentax line can be found cheap, but 135, and may be tak105. I said may be, because i dont look after this one. But good glasses they are.

Edit:
May be not cheap, the 135/2.5, but M135/3.5 can be found for 40-50 usd.

What do you mean? Most under $150, many less than $50. That's dirt cheap.

+1
and Pentacon 100mm f2.8, Meyer 100mm f2.8, Vivitar 85mm f1.8 , Tamron SP 90mm f2.5, Takumar 105mm, basically all 135mm lenses no matter who made it usally. 100mm f2.8 OM , even Tamron 70-150mm f3.5 zoom a good performer.
Kaleinar 100mm f2.8, Jupiter-9 85mm f2 etc .

Pentacon 135/2.8 preset seems much better built than the later version...it's a great lens. Also brilliant is the Super Takumar 105/2.8 and the Sankor 105/2.5 (if you can find one).

I forgot, soligor 105/2.8 m42, 8 or 10 blades, my is 8 blades. Got it for 25 usd. Tiny, and very good performer.

Vivitar 135/2.8, got two identical for 25 usd each. But i dont like the color. Both mine copies are sharp, also sharp wide open. Colorof the pentax is much better.

Where the hell did you buy Soligor so cheap? Very Happy The cheapest on ebay.com is 120$. I envy you Westerners, you always seem to buy those lenses for tenth the price I'd pay for them. Very Happy

Thanks for all the feedback.

On US Ebay of course wait for an auction..

If you want cheap lens look Kaleianar, Pentacon, Meyer, Jupiter lenses in your country.

I haven't seen an auction for a while, but the Cosina Auto Cosinon 135mm/2.8 (M42) is quite cheap, too. At least I like my copy (although I use it too seldom).
But I'd also trust Attila enough to follow his recommendation in the last post.

Only real problem with the Meyer Orestor/Pentacon 2.8/100 is sticky aperture blades which a good dousing with lighter fluid usually sorts out. If the focus is smooth enough, unscrew and remove the whole rear element assembly, remove the filter trim ring and unscrew and remove the front element assembly and that's you ready to apply the lighter fluid to the aperture blades.

Super Paragon ( made by Cimko ) 135 f2.8. Excellent performer, small and compact. I bought mine for £3 in good condition ( except for a dead fly inside the lens. But the carcass fell to the bottom when I took pictures and didn't show up. It was easily removed Laughing )

That's with the built in hood extended, the lens from the 55mm filter thread to mount face is just under 75mm.

My best/favorites (in order):

1: S-M-C Takumar 135/2.5 and f/3.5
2: Meyer Trioplan 100/2.8
3: Super Takumar 105/2.8
4: Soligor C/D 135/2.8
5: Opticam 135/2.8

Stretching it a bit:

* Vivitar-Komine 90/2.8 (1:1) macro
* Enna Tele-Sandmar 100/4.5
* Jupiter-11 135/4
* Novoflex Noflexar 105/3.5
* TDC VIVID Anistigmat 127/3.5

The last two need to be mounted on extension. The Enna can be set into a body cap.

Indeed 70-150 zooms can be good performers if you can go to about f3.8/f4.....in my 135mm tests the Vivitar (made by Kiron) 70-150mm f3.8 2 touch close focussing zoom set at 135mm was as good as Hexanon, Canon, Fuji etc in resolution test at 100 yards, also the Vivitar is good for close ups as well.

Don't forget Tomioka 2.8/100mm, sold as Panagor, Beroflex, Porst...

Before buying Pentacon ask of internal fogging. Dry grease is easier to resolve.

No one has mentioned the Spiratone 105mm f72.5 (if I'm not wrong).
Can be found really cheap in OEM incarnation as Mayfair Sankor and it's an excellent lens...

Regards.
Jes.

More like could be before this forum started popularising it....

As to my recommendations:
1. S-M-C Takumar 135/2.5. A legendary lens, and with good speed too. Try to get the second version (although I have the first and find it excellent).
2. Carl Zeiss Jena MC 135/3.5. Another excellent 135mm lens. Slower, but well reputed for its rendering, bokeh, and closer focus than the Pentax options.
3. S-M-C Takumar 135/3.5. A solid performer, easily found, and cheep.
4. Tamron AD2 135/2.5 Close Focus. I have this lens and compared it (non-formally) against my S-M-C Takumar v1 and found IQ to be very close (just looking at photos taken with each, not test shots or charts). It's fast and has nice bokeh. The close focusing is a definite plus, although you need to stop down to get sharpness at close focus. As the lens isn't too well known, it's still pretty cheep.

Well i will throw a few more in to the equation.
I would recomend the Carenar 135 F2.8 made in Korea.
I was shooting some portraits this weekend with this lens and yet again incredible results one of my best lenses and at £5 it always shocks me.
A little slower the Jupiter 37A, or 11A
Also the Konica F3.5 135 A great lens
Sample from the Carenar

#1

That was a quick shot at Saltburn it was freezing and the wife was moaning I like the bokeh, and sharpness

I was just at a used camera shop that has 28mm f/3.5, 50mm 1.4, 50mm f/4 macro, and 135mm f/2.5 Pentax Super-Multicoated lenses. Must have come from a single owner. All are in excellent shape, and very reasonably priced. Are you in the USA? If so, try Gary at 614-824-5047.

I'm not. Smile

Thanks for all the info. I'll be writing a list with all the lenses and maybe try to find something in a local bazaar (I'm not sure whether it's the right expression).

Yeah, but shipping small items from the USA is not that expensive, especially if you get several lenses. I have seen the lenses and they are almost like new!

Also, the dealer might be willing to sell them all at once at a 'package' discount. It would be hard to find them all at once in such fine condition.

I believe the lenses are: 28mm f/3.5, 50mm f/1.4, 135mm f/2.5, and 50mm f/4 macro.

You can contact them at: worldofusedphotogary@gmail.com
