Hard to find now and pricey when you do. Too bad they were discontinued. I handled one once and liked it.

it would be fun to have a modern slr with easy access to all of that m42 goodness ...

I see no point, many old SLR works like Swiss watch and inexpensive. If you want to pay more take a Contax body + an M42 adapter.

That does sound alluring... reminds me that there are Vivitar etc branded K mount cameras around still, "modern" but cheap... I felt one or two along the way, and they were very nice in that they are very small and light weight.

I consider the easiest, least fussy way to m42 goodness to be the Fujica ST605/605n. Small, cheap, replaceable, and a decent view finder. I don't know of too many M42 pancake lenses tho' Wink but with a small 35 or 28 that combo is portable.

Here's mine. A perfect combination with the 40mm Ultron.

For those who never tried one: IMO you cannot compare it to a 25-30 years old SLR. I had/have a lot and became fed up with them, because usually they had some kind of problem. One exception was the Nikon FM2n which is a wonderful camera too, but I didn't want to start collecting Nikkor lenses, so I sold it, and Contax cameras, but they are too "modern" for my taste (I know there's the S2, but it's more pricey than the Bessaflex).
So I ended up buying the Bessaflex, and never regret it. It has a nice look, a very big, bright viewfinder and a very precise lightmeter.

Try once Fujica ST801, it has all feature what you say about Bessa.

I never tried a Fujica SLR, maybe I should one day, although I'm not totally convinced that it feels as good as a Bessaflex. But it has surely a way better price/value ratio.

Once we can arrange a short meeting and I can try your Bessa and you can try my Fuji Wink
