Icarex was a neat camera, but it was a little bit too little too late for Zeiss and Voigtlander. The lenses for these are harder to find than the cameras it seems. They made an M42 version too, but it lacks some of the features of the bayonet mount one (eg. no interchangeable viewfinders).
They are often overlooked because they had a short production life, and it was frankly not a high point for Zeiss... Some people don't like the styling either, but I kind of like the pseudo-futurisic blocky look (they look better in color, with all of the red accents here an there, trust me).
Also there's a very interesting lens for these, the Ultron with a concave front element, now that's a conversation piece if there ever was one. I'm not sure if it was available in M42. |
