I know there is one compatibility lens chart for the new 5D mak II but I am not able to find one for the older, original 5D here. Do we have one here? Yes, I know I am a few years late but ...
If there is none, can we start with the same great format that Orio started with the 5D (II)?
(Apology to Orio)
- Can be physically mounted on the camera?
- Is it possible to take pictures focusing at infinity in normal mode?
- Is it possible to take pictures focusing at distances other than infinity?
- Specify the type of adapter used and it's origin:
- Do you think, lens surgery is possible and effective _________________

5D1 mirror hits these when infinity focus:
4.5/20*, 3.5/24**, 2/35, 3.5/35, 1.4/50 <-- 3.5/24, mirror hits going up and generates "ERR"!!! 4.5/20 mirror hits sometimes; I think temperature makes the difference because no hit in Summertime, sometimes hits in Wintertime.
these work fine:
4/17, 3.5/28, macro 4/50, 1.8/55, 1.8/85, macro 4/100, 2.8/105, 2.8/120, 2.5/135, 3.5/135, 4/150, 4/200, 4/300, 5.6/400, 4.5/500

Just tested my 35/2.4 CZ Flek and I have no problem. No "Err" and no mirror hitting.
CZ Flek Auto 2.4/35; SMC 1.4/50
Yes

I don't have a Tak 1.8/55 so I can't say.
A silly question, is it very obvious when there is a mirror hitting in 5D? _________________

I don't own a Mark2. My understanding is some of the lens not usable on mark1 but you can use on mark2 because of the Liveview feature. _________________

As to my question..
Is the mirror less likely to jam against the back of the lense on the 5dmrk2?
My daily ride is a 7d,,
though I do use the 5d, but more for personal stuff..
I Have 16 m42 lenses as I have a spotmaticII in the family..
Again, thanks for your help |

From reading here I think so. I have 5Dc too. For example, mirror hits S-M-C 50/1.4 at infinity, but not 5DII. SMC 50/1.4 is fine on both cameras. It's close I think.

Typically, lenses longer than 55mm are no problem.
The Super-Takumar 50/1.4 gets hit when focused all the way to the stop at infinity. A slight turn of the focus ring, the lens is fine, no hit. When lens is stopped down dof does extend to infinity, ex. for distant landscape. I rarely use the 50mm at infinity, so mirror hit is rarely a problem.
Takumar 55/2 (and 55/1.8), and 135/3.5 (and 135/2.5) are all fine, no hit.
Takumar 28/3.5 does not get hit; 35mm both f/3.5 and f/2 get hit at infinity -- again, same as with 50mm, these are usable except all the way at infinity focus.
I think I posted a list of Takumar compatability with 5Dc earlier in this thread....
I like the Tamron SP 17/3.5 non-fisheye. I don't know about fast 28; there's plenty of reading about that here in the forum. _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

that 17mm f3.5, love it,
I want more glass, to add to my collection,, Most of my lenses are at the lower end of value.
Wanna get the 55mm 1.2,, and deffo a non-fishy 17mm 3.5
So not much similar lense to the canon ef 28mm f1.8 exisits..
Personally I see my collection as an investment,
I have 5 main canon ef lenses that I work with,
ef 100-400, ef 17-40, ef 24-105, ef 35 f1.4
efs 10-22
But they feel borring to talk about
