i just spent $20 on this old russian half frame:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170746149064?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

it seems to take m39 lenses, but does not seem to be a rangefinder! seems to be DOF focusing. anybody know anything about this baby? can i usebany m39? or is it like the zenits and you can only use non rangefinder m39 lenses? i have both kind, so its no issue, just want to know what will work...

thanks
tony

Yes, quiet popular locally as collector camera, I did never interest much about half frame cameras, I did try two of them , Robot and Olympus Pen-D , both were disappointing. (IQ)

I haven`t use the camera , but from what I`ve heard it`s becoming a very nice collectors piece . It`s quite hard to find one with a working selenium meter, but if your does, it would be very interesting to see how accurate it is Smile. The lens is indeed detachable, but I don`t think that you can use other M39 on the camera.
Still , you`ve got yourself a very nice piece, have a good time shooting it Wink

As Attila said, the IQ is an issue with these cameras. You probably have to use the camera in portrait position to take landscape shots.

Some info here about them: http://www.lomography.com/magazine/reviews/2010/09/05/chaika-3-half-frame-for-the-space-age

The lens was removable to use in an enlarger. It's not the same register distance as RF lenses.
