I just bought a Mir-20M in mint condition. Warning for boring test images.

The looks is really something. and the rings are perfectly smooth to operate.

Seems quite all right this lens. Good contrast and colours. Some barrel distortion, but good (without moustache shape) that is easy to correct if wanted.

Centre sharpness is high from wide open and the corners picks up at f/5.6-8 somewhere.
A little bit of lateral blue/red CA that is easy to fix, but not really visible unless looking at high magnification.
Short mfd opens for creativity.

The next gizmo is the Tair 3s (with photosniper gun)
Very sharp lens from wide open. Just a tiny bit of CA/PF wide open, that is gone by f/5.6, see PF chrome-torture below.

f4.5

f5.6
s

beautiful highlight stars @ f8

Sharp from edge to edge from wide open (or was this perhaps @f5.6, I don't remember). Although this shot was made from the roof of my office in very windy conditions with a wobbling tripod. It is 7km to the highest grey building (that says EXPRESSEN, a large tabloid in Sweden) in the horizon at the centre and 15 km to the globe to the left of it. Click on it for larger size

Can't wait to aim this beast at the Moon some night with stacked TCs.

Any nice episodes or memories with these two Russian chunks?

Those are both beauties! The Mir 20m is generally considered bulky but it's really well-balanced on the sony, right? At least that's what I found. The Mir will deliver the best colors you'll see from an older 20mm.

I find it very well balanced in weight, and overall sweet to operate due to its proportions.

The diameter of the front ring seems co-developed with the A900, since when it is put on a table it levels almost perfectly to shoot straight ahead Smile

That lens has escaped me so far. Looks good - I'm envious of the camera too.

I like Tair in any focal length variants, I was not impressed about any MIR. Congrats for your new tools.

Did you get the pistol photosniper thingy? That's the ultimate soviet camera lens setup.

I was more curious about the mir.

Yes, I got the Potosnaiper too, but not the bag.

Has anyone tried to take that through an airport?

"Sir, why do you have a grenade launcher in your bagage? ....." Laughing

I have looked at the Tair often wondering to buy one or not.
Your shots look nice, to me even the chrome torture shots look very nice, the one at 5.6 is almost 3D to me and very sharp ... (ducks and runs before all hell breaks loose again after mentioning 3D... Twisted Evil ).
The only thing keeping me from buying one is that it doesnt fit my bag and I dont want to haul it around otherwise...

Congrats! I expect my Mir-20, purchased from rbelyell here on the forums, to arrive today! Smile

What accessories did yours come with? Mine is coming with a case and filters, but no hood.

Sweet.

My came complete with built in hood (tiny thing, not much of help), both lids, original casing and colored filters.

PS Are you aware of what your nick means in Swedish? DS

Mine did arrive today! Smile The focus ring is smooth, but the aperture ring does feel a tiny bit "cheap" when turning. It's interesting where they put the half-step clicks in.

Our serial numbers are very close... mine is: 851069!

For filters I have red, green and clear. Is that what you have also?

And yep, I do know the meaning in Swedish, but don't worry... I'm nice Wink

I'm glad that your focusing ring is also smooth. The aperture ring feeling is kind of indexed, I agree. But I feel it is built to last.
Yes, same filters in my box if I remember correctly.

Ok, good, what is your connection to Swedish, or Sweden?
By your reply I think that you may have a bit of a translation problem. The American meaning of the same word(s) is used for idiots and unfriendly people if I am correct!? In Sweden we don't use the word(s) for that at all. It is mostly used to describe just what it means literally.

Cheers

Hi:

Really nice lens for any collection. The Mir 20 is really pretty beauty lens, I will looking for one soon.

This version is coated lens, but not MC right? You can appreciate this? I see the MC version (with little "attempt" of hood) but the front glass is really exposed, and sure the flare tries to be the protagonist in all photos... The rear filters are plastic or glass made? Sure subtrac a little of quality.

The tair 3s with sniper is awesome.

Thanks, regards & have fun!!

Yes. I have non-MC version.
I thought filers were in glass. But I really dont know. And dont care. Will never use them anyway. But nice to have for completeness of the collection.
The hand must come in handy for blocking out the sun to avoid flare. But I have not used it outside yet and dont know how easy it flares. I prepare mentally for a lot Cool
