Hello, i 'm trying a Jupiter-8 50mm mounted (L39) on a Sony NEX-5 and i'm surprised to see that the minimum focus of 1 m looks more like of a 1,5 m focus.
Is there a way to make closer photos with an additional lens mounted on the Jupiter-8 50?
Also, what other L39-M39 lenses can i use for close photo ? (0,3-0,5m)
Thanks for your answers.

L39 lenses are rangefinder lenses which most of them have far MFD. I never saw with such close distance, except macro lens.
I added extension tube for NEX from ebay seller, here's the result (lttle fly) _________________ nex5, Olympus EPM1, yashica half 14, Canon eos 650 want to see samples of mine? please click My lenses

I just checked mine on a G1 with 25mm tube & find the Min.FD to be 22cm/8.5in. subject to sensor.

Thanks Revers for your explanations Is there Rangefinder lenses with FD less than 1m (without extended tube)?
Thanks again. |

Do you mean that Rangefinder lenses are not made for close shots?
Thanks again Iaza

There are some. Many of the later lenses focus down to .7 or .8 on the helicoid rf coupled and some down to .5 uncoupled.
For vintage LTM look for a Nikkor 50mm f1.4. It will uncouple at 1m and then focus down to .5 meters.
Later lenses such as the M Mount ZM Biogon 25mm f2.8 will do the same. As will the CV 35mm f1.2.
But why not simply use a less expensive Reflex lens for such work? RF Lenses are not optimized for distances under 1M.
I would search for a Reflex lens with a FLE that compensates for close distance or a Macro lens.

yes there are.. the Voigtländer 1.4/40 Nokton has a FD of 0,7m and for the 4/25 Color Skopar it's only 0,5m

Tubes are not expensive & add much versatility to the lens you have. Check out this link:

Best money you will ever pay for nex adapter
in fact it's the only one I know that knows where infinity is. Not to mention excellent close focus. Only thing it's missing is a lock so you don't accidentally use it when you don't want to.
