What camera are you using and what is your budget?
As far as M42 goes, the obvious answer is the Takumar 35/2 if you like Pentax lenses. Other M42s include the Mir 24M (35/2), Vivitar/Kiron 28/2 (not that good wide open), Komine/Vivitar 24/2 (soft wide open). _________________ Graham - Moderator

I vote for the Pentax 35/2, but Vivitar 35/1.9 (Komine) is not a bad choice IMO. Or Panagor 35/2. |

Pentax K 30/2.8 is the sharpest lens wide open i have.
Otherwise pentax K 35/2 is also very good. _________________ La migliore cura di LBA imparare una nuova lingua. Le meilleur remde de LBA est d'apprendre une nouvelle langue. La mejor cura del LBA es aprender una nueva lengua. |

It depends on what your budget is...Personally, I'd recommend either a used Nikon 35mm f1.4 Ai-S or a new Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar 35mm f1.4 UMC, which ever one you can find cheapest. |

I've found the 30/2.8 and 25/2's can be difficult to get. However they both seem surpassed by the 35/3.5 which is quite common and usually cheaper

I would pick the Nikkor 35/2.8 in one of it's variants, I really like the preAI version I have.
I like the look of the Rokkor 35/1.8, but it's more $ than what you're looking at, and will need to be converted for EOS.
same goes for the Canon FD 35/2 with the concave front element. |

No, seriously, you have to tell something about price range and you have to say if it's for Canon, Sony Alpha, Nikon, etc. or for mirroless Systems.
BTW: The good Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar 35mm F1.4 is also sold as Walimex _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester

Hehe, Samyang is selling many lenses for reselling.
It's queer sister the Samyang 8mm F3.5 MC Fisheye has even more brand names, for example it's also sold as Polar, Falcon and Opteka (and it's as well sold as Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar/Walimex and maybe more)
I like to know how many brand names the older very common Samyang 500mm f/8 Preset ED IF MC alias "Wundertüte" has _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester
