My friend asked me, whether this lens could be used on DSLR. I told him, it could be. then he said he will show me this lens.
2 days ago he brought this lens (Tamron 60-300 3.8-5.4 SP), 28-70/3,5-4,5 not SP , and tele converter ( too bad it has very bad fog). All in adaptall Tamron mount, but no adapter. all in box incl papers & leather bags

I: all can be used in DSLR but you have to find adapter
He: Adapter is difficult to find?
I: yes, difficult. and it's difficult to focus too, if you compare to modern AF lens
He: Ok, You better bring all of them, maybe you can use it, more
I: ??? ( can tou guess what I said?) Very Happy

I never have experience with Tamron adaptall. no aadapter too, just watch soe in *bay
Anybody has experience with both lens?
Is it worth to buy adapter? or should I throw away them ? Very Happy

The 60-300 SP is a well regarded lens, probably worth getting an adapter for that one.

http://www.adaptall-2.org/lenses/23A.html

Quote:
Tamron SP 60-300mm F/3.8-5.4 Model 23A: A somewhat above average performer compared to after market and OEM lenses within its class. Very good sharpness and contrast for a 5:1 zoom lens. Features macro at 60mm down to 1:1.55 with very good central image quality at moderate apertures combined with mediocre corner image quality. If you seek a normal to long telephoto zoom for general purpose sports and nature photography, then this is the lens to buy. If you desire better overall optical performance, better and more versatile macro performance, and are willing to sacrifice the longer 200mm to 300mm telephoto portion of the zoom range, then the SP 70-210 model 19AH is a much better choice. Nevertheless, this lens is a very good performer for those who need a near normal to long telephoto zoom lens.

Adapters are easy to find on ebay.

New ones are being made in China.

Look for Adaptall-2 mount for your brand of DSLR.

The 60-300 is mega sharp, stop down to f7.1 to eliminate purple fringing though.

That one:
http://www.adaptall-2.org/lenses/44A.html

... is a really good one and the model I have never seen going for $15,- here.

If you find that lens in good condition for 15 bucks, don't hesitate.

The last few on ebay finished (combination of both models):

£16.21 (sold, 4 bids)
£9.99 (sold, 1 bid)
£10.00 (unsold, no bids)
£15.00 (sold, 2 bids with Nikon adapter)
£19.99 (sold, 2 bids with M42 adapter)
£18.75 (sold, 2 bids)
£10.00 (unsold, no bids)
£5.00 (sold, 1 bid with M42 adapter)

So maybe closer to $20.00.

Get shopping in the UK folks Smile

My adapter from Hongkong ( luis suggested) arrived.
Today I brought both lenses to visit friend.
I was excited to try 60-300 first, but weather and situation isn't suit for it. I tried it anyway, but no good result. I have to push ISO up to 800 minimum, and I don't like it.
beside, it's heavy too for NEX, and flare is killing me, CA...
I'll try another day next time.

I really surprised results of 28-70, here..

I think 28-70 is a good lens. Even better is the 35-80mm SP (01A) HERE

PostPosted: Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:45 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yes there are 2 different version of the 28-70 (none of them being from the superior SP-series):
The old one has 62mm filter, the new one being smaller.
The old one is optically much better.
I had both - no only the old one....

The 60-300 is a very good but heavy tele zoom lens.
I had it and compared it to the Tamron 70-300 Di and the Sigma APO 70-300:
The 60-300 was always better, the AF-zooms needed 1-2 f-stops closed to get nearly the same quality.
But the Tamron SP 5.6/300 + SP 2.8/80-200 are even better.... (but a lot more expensive too).

Try the 60-300 as a macro lens - you might be surprised!
(only at 60mm if I remember correctly - it's already some years ago now)

Just to share.

A 60-300mm... you're a lucky guy ! Wink
Any samples ?

Yes Paul macro funtion is really amazing from Tamron, I dont like flare/lack of contrast of it. the 28-70 not SP is better in this case
Olivier; yeah but this lens is too heavy for my Sony NEX Very Happy so I rae using it, beside.. I have new toy Very Happy My samples with this lens are far from your shot Olivier, that I feel shame to upload Embarassed

I've bought a 60-300mm for 20 EUR recently ; I was very surprised how sharp this lens is ! (300mm).
But : Heavy, no tripod mount, push-pull zoom with the 300mm at the far end, so you have to put your hand on the far end of this long zoom to focus : Not convenient and not discret for hunting. CA wide open. Odd macro position at a too close distance.
The 28-70mm was my "low cost" trans-standard zoom during my film years : A good lens : No more, no less. CHEAP !
I still have this lens but never tried it on digital...

Oh no, Iaza, you surely underestimate your shots (and overestimate mine...) Wink
Please share some and don't feel ashame. Smile

@Phenix : 20€ !!! Shocked real bargain.

PostPosted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:24 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Toss Phenix for the 28-70... This lens is great cheap one.
Ok olivier here my shot with 60-300, the weather was heavy rain on first shot. On 2nd shot I have to push ISO too, so itsnt high res.
my copy has some fungus, is it affect on flare/lack of contrast? I found its very prone to strong light, even with hood.

this is strange fruit with 28-70

PostPosted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 7:55 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Thanx Iaza Smile

First one is quite noisy.
Else, I think fungus (haze ?) is a reason for lack of contrats and strong light prone.

Well done Nelson.

Leboncoin is one of the last sites where we can make bargains. I should look at it more often. Smile

For instance :

At this price, a real bargain.

Nice ones Nelson.

8 blades, isn't it ? Wink
What was the focal length and aperture ?

Of course, it's not a canon 70-300mm f4-5.6 L IS USM, but Iaza, I think that after you'll manage cleaning, you'll be very happy with it. Smile
