Hello everyone,
I bought a Helios 44-2 (payed 8 Euro) that have the focus ring stuck. I have removed the focus ring
I have put WD-40 lubrificant here:
The focus ring is unlocked, but only for a very short, goes on and back for about 1mm.
I tried to unscrew the focusing block (turning clockwise), but does not unscrew.
I wrong? Is this the correct procedure? Could the gear focus broken?
There is another way to dismount? |

I cannot help with the assembly but I wish to advise that WD 40 is NOT a lubricant, the WD stands for water displacer. _________________ Ron

Thanks Lloydy, very understandable procedure.
To dismantle the helicoid the steps are: first dismantle the focus ring and then unscrew the helicoid?
My helicoid is stuck does not go forward or backward (only for about 1mm).
There is no other way to dismount? The only thing I can do is force to unscrew? |

The first thing I'd do is remove the optical block, turn the front half(which contains both aperture rings) CCW to remove it,
set it a side to protect it from harm(there is also a spacer that should stay with the optics).
the the part you were trying to loosen, requires a ccw rotation, since you are stuck at infinity, I would take that off as a last step, as there are fine threads under it that can be damaged if you require more force to separate the helicoid, I would mark a location mark that will help 'clock' the "DOF markings ring/skirt" to it's original spot, then remove the 3 tiny screws holding the DOF ring in place, that will give you access to the helicoid, now you can soak the helicoid in solvent and hopefully loosen it up to rotate it(extend it) now you can remove the retaining ring that you were having issues with(ccw) mark the orientation where the 2 halves of the helicoid separate to make rejoining them easy.

I hope that helps.
