Hi,anyone out there provide further info on this mint copy I just received? came with minolta 101 mount which unscrews from rear,will any adaptall mount fit or do I need particular mount ie.Adaptall Sp orAdaptall? for Pentax k or Canon FD,all my gear is packed up for move to Ecuador so can't try any of my mounts but I have never seen this type of mount on any of my Tamrons.any info much appreciated as it is a beautiful looking lens.

There were at least four versions of this lens -

Fixed mounts, in several styles. Some were automatic, some preset
Adaptamatic - I have this one
Adaptall - the early Adaptall, not Adaptall-2

There may even be a T-mount version, I think I may have spotted one once.

If the mount actually unscrews it may be the Adaptamatic
The Adaptalls are a bayonet system.

If its Adaptall I think you can get the cheap ebay versions that don't support auto aperture. You can get any modern mount I think.

If its Adaptamatic you have some problems. You will need to find another Adaptamatic lens with a mount you can use with an adaptor, like M42 or Nikon.

Thanks luisalegria,I know I have an adaptamatic mount packed as I have quite a number of Tamron lenses but can't remember any of them being screw mounted,will just have to be patient until I get to Ecuador and unpack,at worse I can mount it to my X700 or 201.I don't think the lens ever came out of its case as it is mint with 72mm Tamron UV filter on,not even any dust specks inside

The Z250 is an older Adaptall mount lens.

So you have to search for an other adaptall mount if you want to use the lens on a different camera.
I think an adaptall-2 mount can fit too.

Thanks Minolfan,the Minolta mount that came with lens screws off and although I have about 20 Tamron Adaptall lenses and just about every mount,I have never seen one that screws out,might be rare,and when it is off lens rear end does not look like regular Tamron bayonet.

The Adaptamatic lenses usually have mounts which have a silver screw in retainer to hold the mount in place. Maybe as Luis has suggested, you actually have a really old T-Mount version where the entire mount screws off? That would be pretty cool.

OK here are pics of lens and mount,after some more searching I think my copy is a PZ 20Au third edition.I will need to get an M42 adapter for my Pentax bodies and I have a Canon P adapter so will fit all my Canon FD bodies.Thanks guys for your help

Yes, Adaptamatic.

If you can't find an M42 Adaptamatic - and it may be difficult - there is a workaround to get it to M42 or any modern mount.

The Adaptamatic thread is 58mm, just like the filter size.

So:

49 (or 52, depends on what you can get)-58 step-up ring
49f-49f gender changer (or 52-52)
Reverse adapter - some of these are 49mm, some 52mm. The other side of course is whatever camera mount you want,

Hi luis,I have a Canon FD 58mm reverse adapter so you say this will screw into lens but I guess I will lose auto aperture control and will set aperture manually.I don't quite understand other options, except for hopefully finding Adaptamatic M42, 49f-49f gender changer? do you mean male - male thread ? and 49(or 52 depends on what I can get) -58 step up ring. how will these options get me to M42 mount?sorry if I sound dumb but really appreciate your suggestions.

Update: I also have a Kenko 49mm reverse M42 adapter and could put 58mm step up to screw into lens and still have manual aperture control.

What I mean is you will need three items -

Step up ring that will screw on the lens thread (58mm) The other side of these rings is a male 49 or 52 thread.

You need to convert the male to female thread, so you need a 49 (or 52) gender changer 49F-49F or 52F-52F - These are available from a few places.

And then you should be able to screw your reverse adapter on the female thread. Get an M42 reverse adapter if thats the mount you want.

If your Canon FD reverse adapter is 58mm (the ones I usually see are 48mm - strange! - and 55mm) then change what I said above to just use a 58F-58F gender changer and screw your reverse adapter directly into it.

Of course you will not have any aperture linkages.
