With all due respect, why don't you just go out and shoot with them yourself? Then share with us how you feel about them! Very Happy

Hi David

No harm in asking the Guru's about the optics...as I'm still to learn all the things lenses can do to images.

This said, I have been playing and in my first post I gave a thumbs up for the helios 35mm vs the std kit lens.

I like both the Canon 50/2 and the Pentacon 50 1.8...will try do some real life outdoor compare at some stage and post my thoughts.
Also have the Helios 44 and don't really know how the extra 8mm will effect...is this still a 50mm or do I rate it between 50 and 85mm (As you can see I'm a newbie and full of it... (questions that is) Wink

I'm not so sure about the Carl Z 50 2.8 and I don't know why....it proforms well......is it me or because this has more valuable than the £5.00 I paid for it.

Just waiting for the PK an PB adaptors....(PK this week, PB next with a bit of luck)

Anyway I'm reading loads and hope my tapping up the pro's for their knowledge is ok.... thanks guys.

I get wonderful strong colours from my Pentacon lenses, and my Helios 44M is a great lens, as for the extra 8 mm ? there's no problem. I have a feeling that most manufacturers are a bit vague with exact sizes of their lenses and they vary a bit, but maybe the Helios varied a bit more than most? But I could be wrong.

Those are the really interesting lenses of this bunch:

1)Asahi smc pentax 24mm 3.5 (PK)
7)Pentacon 50mm 1.8 (I have 2 M42)
8)Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm 2.8 (M42)
9)Helios 44m 58mm 2 (M42)

And that one if you get it adapted:

10)Pentacon 50mm 2.4 (PB)

But as it has been said, try them yourself and surprise us with an unknown gem. Wink

lucky you, it usually sells for about 150+ usd and it is a good lens

The pentax 24mm is the only good one here, and eventually the tessar.

The Zeiss is a rebadged Pentacon 2.8/28, I have two copies, very nice lens.

The 2.4/50 PB mount lens is also a good one, but not quite so nice as the 1.8/50 Pentacon which I really like.

Cool

The one thing I like about the 2.4 50 PB mount is just how thin it is.
About half that of the other 50's

Could only get a PB-NEX from Hong Kong so will have to wait a few weeks.

That little Tamron 400 is quite a capable lens. I have one.

There is no reason you can't get excellent results with it. Most long tele work depends much more on technique than lens quality, within reason.

Its also about as small and light as you can get with a simple 400mm.

Great post.....I have what I assumed was the origanal lens mount(tamron) but as you quite correctly pointed out in the post the whole barrel turns which when mounted involes the camera spinning round.
Look to correct this with a mount on the M42 to nex Adaptor, Which is a large piece of kit on the NEX.
