I was just browsing around on ebay and noticed an adapter for DKL to M42 mount. I couldn't find much information in regards to DKL mounts but I did notice some references to Schneider, Kodak, and Rodenstock lenses used on the Retina system amongst others. I found an example of a Schneider in DKL here http://cgi.ebay.com/RETINA-TELE-XENAR-135MM-F4-RETINA-REFLEX-III-S-DKL-MT-/370392786951?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item563d216807#ht_3626wt_907.
Are there a lot of interesting DKL lenses out there that I can use on my EOS system? Can I reach infinity with this setup?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Can't find the register ditance for DKL mount and difficult to see in ebay ads, but looks to me like there is no glass in a DKL to EOS adapter and all of the ads I looked at indicate infinity focus is possible. |

Thanks Martyn. I also noticed some adapters with built in apertures so I'm assuming the DKL mount lenses do not have apertures. It appears the retina cameras have apertures in the body. Some of these lenses are quite cheap and from great manufacturers, would be nice if they work great! _________________ 500D / SPII / FTn / Contax D / 137MA / Contaflex

Hi,
Yes, you will be able to reach the infinity focus provided that your M42-to-EOS adapter has the right thickness ...
I have used the DKL-to-M42 adapter on my K10D and my two DKL lenses (a Schneider Xenar 135/3.5 and a Voigtlander Dynarex 134/4) both reach infinity on the camera. Thus, if your M42 adapter is good, there will be no issue at all ... _________________ Please visit my blogs Shooting with a Pentax K10D / FF Visions

Infinity is ok with dkl/eos.
There are some nice lenses in this range.. like skoparex 3.4/35 and septon 2/50, also xenar 2.8/50, tele xenar 4/135 and xenon 1.9/50. Those are very fine lenses with special fingerprint . _________________ Stefan

Thanks for that list. Are all these lenses w/o aperture? I'm confused since I've seen a DKL -> EOS adapter that has built in aperture blades.
Thanks

There is an aperture in the lens, but there is no aperture ring on it.
That's why it is made in the adapter - it just pushes a small pin on the lens which controls the blades.
check this out - those are the voitlander lenses in DKL:

hi nate
i have many dkl lenses that i bought for my retina film cameras, but also use digitally. i use them on my 5d w an eos adapter, not m42, but there is no reason an m42 adapter should not work properly.
i will say that in my experience, these lenses work great on the retina film cams, and work great on my m4/3 olly ep2. they do not work great, in terms of IQ, on my 5d. i dont know why, but there is a noticeable dropoff in quality using these great lenses on what is objectively the best quality cam in my arsenal, but that is definately the case in my observation.
if you have a mirrorless cam, like the olly or panny etc, i highly recommend these lenses. i'm not sure how they would perform on regular crop cam dslr. but on full frame dslr i think you would be disappointed as i was. _________________ Epson RD1 + Elmarit 21/2.8; Summarit 50/1.5; Summarit 75/2.5; Elmar-c 90/4; Sankyo Komura 135/2.8, Hektor 135/4.5; Braun Paxina 29 6x6; Photax Boyer Paris; Holga 120 Pano

The skoparex i had was very very good on Canon 30D and not so good on Olympus Pen. _________________ Stefan

yes stefan i am coming to the conclusion the problem may lie with the full frame nature of the 5d, especially since you've gotten good results on a canon crop cam. its unfortunate because i love the color rendition of these lenses. it also is confusing to me since obviously the film retina cams are full frame... _________________ Epson RD1 + Elmarit 21/2.8; Summarit 50/1.5; Summarit 75/2.5; Elmar-c 90/4; Sankyo Komura 135/2.8, Hektor 135/4.5; Braun Paxina 29 6x6; Photax Boyer Paris; Holga 120 Pano
