Pimp my NEX-5

Hi,

2 weeks ago I bought the Nex-5. Not that I need this cam - it was only due to the new firmware V4 with the new peaking feature. My eyes are no longer the best so I tought it would be a good idea to buy this cam to use this with some of my MF lenses.

I got it with the kit lens which is not too bad but I used this lens not too much.
First I bought a QBF to NEX and a M42 to NEX adapter to play a little bit with the cam.

As written within another thread I find that the weight isn´t well balanced if the lens is too long or heavy. Furthermore the battery has not a long lifetime (perhaps 150 pics or so).

Therefore I bought a battery grip for the NEX which arrived today and a second battery. Furthermore I ordered a LCD hood for better view when sunshine.

Here few images from the cam with these accessories and the Zuiko 2.8/24mm MC. I don´t own at the moment a Olympus to NEX adapter so you can see some adapter stacking on the images - Olympus to m4/3 and then m4/3 to NEX adapter. This is a cheap Chinese adapter for 14 or 15 €. It works but I believe a special xx to NEX adapter would be better.

With the new battery grip the complete combo has a better weight balance and for persons with larger hands it is a better handling.

The 2 batteries are a little bit stiff in the compartment and the 2 caps are simple. My solution is to buy the special external battery loader which is available for the grip. So you can let the batteries into the grip during loading.

This is my subjective view of point. Others maybe will see this different.

Very nice product shots, Rolf!

Looks good under your NEX. Looks like a camera now. Wink
(Just kidding. I like the NEX also without that grip.)

Great looking set, battery grip seems an excellent idea, how about LCD shade ? Is it good enough on strong sun light ?

It is so lala. Helps if the sun shines from left or right or top, but if the sun is on your back side the hood has not a great effect. Would be perhaps a good idea to combine the hood together with an anti-reflex screen protection.

Looking good! Smile

Although even the very small Zuiko doesn't look so compact with the added thick adapter. Perhaps the truly compact solution are rangefinder lenses like the Contax G. I read somewhere that rangefinder wides have a bad trait of color vignetting or something on the NEX body, have you experienced that?

Wonder if there is a similar grip to my PEN?!? Surprised

Cool, but that package actually looks pretty nice. Not as pimped out as you can get with some Hoodman gear I've seen:

Of course with such an out moded old design of DSLR, with a mirror no less, it requires all that gear!!!! Twisted Evil

I think the mirror-less designs are easier to heft and for longer. Laughing

Hang on a minute, though. Much of the point of that rig is being able to see the LCD screen no matter the lighting conditions. In that respect, mirrorless cameras have the same needs.
