Hi All,
How does those 2 Russian Mirror lenses compare?
MC 3M 5CA 8/500 and Rubinar 8/500 MC macro.
Which one should be sharper?

A lot of these were shot with the 3M 6A (500/6.3). I think it acceptably sharp. Not sure how that compares to the 5CA, let alone the Rubinar, sorry.

Thanks
they look ok to me.. at least the close ones.
You say Rubinar is not good?

I tried both, on 5DmkII and 14Mpx APS-C. I don't see significant differences in sharpness. Except Rubinar focuses closer (2.2m vs 4m) and both have different color cast. Rubinar is more towards red and 3M-5CA renders more green color cast.
Just grab cheaper one.

I only have rubinar, sharp, not decent sharp but enough for me. I tried sonnar 200/2,8 + TC 2x kenko, Rubinar was sharper than this combo.
I tried Tokina 500/8 too, Rubinar is better.
Never tried MC 3M 5CA 8/500

I had MC 3M 5CA 8/500 more less same than Tamron SP 500 F8 both are excellent lens , but Tamron is smaller and more usable due adaptall-2 interface.

I never want to try it out Rubinar it looks to me crappy built , pictures are what I saw wasn't look to good. There is a rarer Russian giant from MTO 6.3/500mm sharper than slower one, but BIG and heavy.

What about MTO 500A 8,5/550
This one is even cheaper - I can get it for 50EUR.

For the price I'd try the MTO 550 F835, but if it doesn't havr a hood grab one for it before you decide on whether to keep it.
If you don't like the results you can always sell it and not lose on the deal.

The Rubinar is a later development, and is a higher resolving lens than the MTO. It was designed to allow for lower tolerances in the placement and alignment of the mirrors, so it's hard to get a lemon with one of these. That said, the Rubinar is built lighter. The MTO is more substantial. Both are great mirrors, easily better than most Japanese ones (with possible exceptions of Nikkor Reflex and other OEM-brand mirrors).
