well I have to say that EL 50/2.8 impressed me more... maybe because it has more magnification with less rings and has no ghosting... EL80/5.6 on the other hand has A LOT of ghosting, I had to shade it with my hand even though no strong lights were near by just flash bounced of ceiling and photos still had some ghosting... in the last photo you can see a "hot spot" above the "PowerShot"

here are some examples (shaded with hand)
a positive thing is longer working distance and huge depth of field
photos at F11 added contrast

Which serious photographer works without a sunshade??
Don't blame that excellent lens please, I never ever had
ANY "ghosting" issues Wink Don't forget, it was designed as a
enlarging, NOT taking lens i.e. reversed light direction.

you are right, the more I look at these samples the more I see it's potential...
all I have to do to now is to shade it Wink
any suggestions?

At least the pics are sharp. But without a helicoid or bellows, an enlarger lens is not very handy. Smile

Well...Less versatile, but more handy than a bellow. Helicoid is a very good solution yet.

I had a special adaptor ring made to convert the filter thread to 52mm.
A deep 52mm sunshade (for a 105mm lens) matches that very well.

Need one such rings?

Unfortunately my group order (on another forum) for Nikon mount helicoids is long over...

Cheers,

Reflector?

I think he means the plastic window of the flash of the powershot (it looks a bit like a reflector, but it's function is to spread the light, not reflect it of course). I don't see any ghosting either, tbh.

With a filter ring (on an enlarging lens!!!!!?????? am I mad?????) Embarassed then merely reverse the lens, using fleaBay to acquirw the ring/bayonet combo?

Of course it has a filter thread mount. Now I'm putting tons of questions marks behind someones name ... Wink

hehe.... well I found out that ghosting was/is caused if the light bounces of shiny surfaces... dddd... and the lens itself has had some mist on the elements inside. Took it apart and cleaned the elements, there is still some ghosting but not as much as before... and there is still some mist on the element
