I've got these two lenses.
Aus Jena DDR is in Exakta mount, Revuenon m42.
I would like to keep one of them and it's hard to sell an Exakta mount lens, so Revuenon would be an obvious choice (even though I'm really happy with it and it's a stop faster)
But the problem is that I can't try Aus Jena as an adapter is too expensive for me for the risk of not being happy with the lens. Also, I do not know how would I press down the aperture "pin" (I don't know the exact word) which is on the side of the lens (this is the one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220786001843&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT ).
Are there any known problems with Exakta lenses on 4/3rd systems?
What do you suggest? _________________ This lens is good for portraits = This lens is as soft as Oprah's butt. |

The sonnar should be the better lens from those 2. Which version is it ? Alu preset or zebra? _________________ Stefan

I guess, the Sonnar will be better. You can switch the aperture to manual mode by turning the half-pressed chrome button of the aperture lelease. On the other hand, you could use the Sonnar as kind of an automatic lens. Focussing wide open (well, not so wide, 1:4...) and before pressing the camera release button, just close the aperture by pressing the lens button.

Try Jena without adapter. If it's healthy Sonnar then obvious choice, if not, you might find other one much more useful. _________________ ---------------------------------

You mean by holding it with a hand?
If it were 2.8 or 3.5 I wouldn't even think now that I know the way of closing the aperture. This one stop, however, tickles me... _________________ This lens is good for portraits = This lens is as soft as Oprah's butt. |

Sure, hold it by hand, prevent light leaks with something and make 20 shots trying for the best. It will give you general idea. Now is Revuenon usable wide-open? If you have to stop down you are soon at F4 too. _________________ ---------------------------------

Quite usable from my short experience, except when there are many highlights.
I'm actually pleased with it, here are two examples from the ZOO, stopped down to f4:

This one is wide open, post processed (not heavily), but I do not have a full resolution here at work:
