I love my 90/2.5. I got the FA100/2.8 to replace it, but it is still here.

This is a very good lens. But the bokeh isn't anything that you wouldn't get from another lens with same specs (90mm 1:2 macro).

Delicious! I really want to try one out!

i dont think so.. because bokeh depends on optical scheme and aperture value..
if you could post an image with an other lens it could be interesting.

Let's compare optical schemes:

(from Tamron sales paper 905EC309B):

Can anybody post the diagram for the Vivitar?

agree, this tammy had a stunning characters specially for portrait and macro

even for this kind of speed

for me, with this lens i wont need it any 80-135mm lens anymore even compared to sigma 105 (af)

still tammy+ext 01F

I really like this Tamron. I've been toying with getting the AF version to see if it's as good.

great shots here!
i agree that in the 80-105 i cant think of a lens that will be more versatile and a performer as this one.

and @ martin
i've read today the AF version is less sharp etc.. so maybe not worth it to spend money just to confirm that

just like evf2, its worth every penny and for the macro shooter it will give us ideal distance to subject different with 50mm

I love this lens too. It's 95% of the Voigtländer 125/2.5 for 10% of the price! It has a very nice bokeh, pretty much devoid of the color fringes seen in other fast macro lenses (like the green fringes on the Vivitar sample above).

BTW, is this karapan sapi in your second picture? If this is the case, then I agree this is really a fast action picture!

Cheers!

I agree that the bokeh depends on optical design. I am just saying that I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in the 52B output.

The other macro lenses I tried (with a sample image - more can be found by following the links) were:

Sigma 105mm

Vivitar Series 1 105mm

Volna 9 50mm

The Volna 9 is the only one that seems to me to have really special bokeh.

The Tamron 52B 90mm is very good too, but it didn't strike me as better than anything else:

I always reach for a wide lens, but over the last 6 months this has become my favourite.
Ever.
It handles perfectly for me.

Wow! This has to be one amazing portrait lens! Very Happy

Thanks Olivier
The roses had a slight frosting on them that I was trying to capture...there is some PP to reduce the brightness and bring the red as close to the real thing as possible.
Here I think the stitching shows how sharp this lens is.
