I just received mine this morning (result of my Easter eBay spree), no hood but the lens elements are in pristine condition (not even dust inside). If the barrel didn't show minor signs of use I would have believed it to be unused.
It's been 6 years since I last used this lens (I replaced it with the 17-35/2.8D) but I have never used it on full frame DSLR, so it's going to be interesting to see how it performs on the D3.
