Has anyone had any experience using old Pentax screw mount lenses on Nikon digital body with an M42 adapter.

You either lose image quality by using a teleconverter-type corrective lens, or you lose infinity focus, as the Nikon mount is designed for a 46.5mm register distance, while M42 is ~45.5mm.

My first camera was a Nikon D50 I did like to use 135mm lenses on it, working distance looks like a 85mm lens on Canon EOS. Perfectly useful for portraits. Some adapter with additional glass works pretty well and you can capture pretty good pictures even at infinity, but most of them produce awful result at infinity.
