Hello my friends,

I've just test this lens with Sony Nex5 by panorama. The lens is only 30 USD but the quality is over the price. Very Happy

Thank you for visiting me. Very Happy

30 USD ? I would buy 10 LOL
My experience, this lens often better than planar 50/1,4

Better in what sense? Sharpness? I feel that the colors (slight green cast, not very saturated colors) and contrast of my Pancolar could be a bit better, which should be the case for the Planar I think.

When I compare my Pancolar to the Voigtländer Color-Ultron 50/1.8 (same as Rollei Planar 50/1.Cool, the Voigtländer has much higher microcontrast and better sharpness in the extreme corners (on full frame). I'm sure this must be the same with the Contax/Zeiss Planar 50/1.4.

The c/y planar 1,7 is the newer voigtlander ultron/rollei planar 1,8 lens.

I didn't find any important difference among the c/y and the pancolar. Only very subtles, and, in my taste, the pancolar is a bit better.

As the pancolar (specialy the older models zebra and the MC in red letters) are something radioactives, they tend to have a green cast. Tht cast can be go off with a sun bath or UV light exposure for a few days. Surely, if you see thru the lens you can note that the center of the lens is more green than the borders.

Somebody can ssay that the pancolar isn´t radioactive. Well, I can say only that if you put the lens to the sun or under UV light, the yellow/brown/green cast will go.

The Planar 50/1.7 has a different design from the 50/1.8 (4 elements in the rear group instead of the front group).

I'm pretty sure my Pancolar (white MC) doesn't have radioactive yellowing. It just has a very slightly green cast. The Color-Ultron 50/1.8 had a reddish cast. I noticed this when shooting landscapes with a lot of snow. The colour balance is different.

My Super-Takumar 55/2 seems to have slightly higher contrast than my Pancolar too. The Super-Tak is a bit warmer too.

Hi AhamB.

Where did you find this information? I can't find it.

Till I know, the ultron for Icarex, the Ultron for Voigtlander with rollei mount QBM, and the contax planar for C/Y, have all the same scheme 7 elements in 6 groups. 4/4 at the front and 3/2 at the rear.

http://www.taunusreiter.de/Cameras/Rollei_QBM_Zeiss_dt.html

The difference is the glass composition and the front first element that in the planar C/Y is not so curved like in the previous versions.

Thanks for the information.

Rino.

I believe this is just a common Copy/Paste error, the author has copied the 50/1.4 lens info and pasted it for 50/1.8 lens.

Omar, you got jewelry in your hand. Sony Nex is good camera. In my opinion, I love it more than Olympus Ep2. I've test it but I don't like anymore.
