I've been looking at a camera to replace my Nikon FA since I only shoot m42 lenses and I'd rather not use an adapter with glass just so I can focus to infinity.

The Minolta Maxxum 7 looks to be ideal, only problem being that the focus screen is absolute garbage for MF lenses, and it doesn't look like I can get one with a focusing aid.

So I was thinking of grabbing an m42-A mount adapter with a focus confirmation chip instead. Does anyone have any experience with focus confirmation chips? Since I'd rather not waste film guessing the focus.

I use the AF chip confirm A adaptors on my Sony A700 and they work spot on, I have two one from ebay BIG IS and another from Weakpotoman

The weakpotoman i had to add a little tape to the mount as it seemed to slip a little on the camera but the AF confirm works perfect infinity reached on most of my lenses with that adaptor (apart from the MIR 1B and the Cosinon

The Big IS is slightly different as it has a pin push works fine on the other two lenses that dont reach infinity focus chip confirm is perfect and gets great results
Easy to use go for it
I think each one of my adaptors was around the £8 mark
