- from eBay, a FD 50/3.5, 1:2 macro with a FD to M4/3 adapter for $84 with shipping.
I did a quick comparison with a Minolta Celtic 50/3.5, 1:2 macro. Here is the quick & dirty test with the focus on the tip of the onion.
1. Minolta
2. Canon
Taken next to a window camera left & I used a hand mirror to reflect light on the shaded side, so there is a bit of lighting difference. _________________ Ron

The canon one certainly shows more detail in the shadow areas of the onion and I also think that it is just a wee bit brighter too. Nice shots _________________ Fuji X10, X-A1 and Samsung nx 20 |

I am not sure Trev but I lean towards the Canon because it is lighter (plastic) compared to the Minolta (metal) which is a benefit for M4/3 cameras.
Here is another shot with the Canon.

prices for manual focus lens with aperture control are rising because of the 4/3 & Nex cameras.
they (or we) need to have lenses that have the aperture ring on the body.
rokkors are also going up in ebay. next are the russian lenses. _________________ mc rokkor 58 f1.4, mc rokkor 135 f2.8, canon fd 50 f1.4, yashica ml 50 f1.9, sigma 80-200 f4, tokina 80-200 f4, sony nex 16mm f2.8, sony alpha 18-70 f3.5-5.6, pentax smc f 35-70mm f3.5-5.6, canon efs 18-55 f3.5-5.6, tokina 28 f2.8, canon fl 58 f1.2 |

I too have noticed how much more FD lenses cost now, as well as FL ones too. M42 lens prices have also increased alarmingly, in the good old US of A you need a friendly bank manager for some of these lenses. _________________ Fuji X10, X-A1 and Samsung nx 20 |

Hard to fault the Canon 50/3.5 macro. I used to own one and it worked great. I think the reason why the Minolta may look sharper is because of the lighting. Detail is about the same, but the Canon's detail is not as high contrast as the Minolta because of the lighting difference.
I agree about the rising prices of FD and FL glass. I still shoot Canon FD film cameras, and have enjoyed being able to pick up some nice pieces for good prices. It's getting harder to do now.
Canon super-wides, fast teles and fast 50s have gotten quite expensive. They've gotten up to Nikkor prices. _________________ Michael
