Hope I'm in the correct forum!!!!!
Been thinking of a micro 4/3rds camera for while now, BUT, recently got to thinking are they REALLY that much better than say a high end compact like the Canon Powershot g12?
The g12 has the advantage of a built in 35-210 zoom (35 equivalent), built in viewfinder and built in flash, and RAW of course and has the usual gimmicks associated with all DSLR's/4/3rd cameras these days.
So with the G12, I do not have to cart around a multitude of lenses and I can practically keep it in a coat pocket when not in use.
The disadvantages of course are the lack of interchangable lenses and the smaller size of the sensor, BUT, again is there really that much difference????
Looking forward to your answers folks _________________ Fuji X10, X-A1 and Samsung nx 20 |

Next type please put into title exact meaning , 'question' is not search able later.
Look samples at infinity distance with both camera usually that is biggest torture for all sensors, films.
If you like G12 take it, also think about you really don't want to try some old lenses , just point and shoot ? If P&S just fine to you G12 or 4/3 no matter I think.
I love the challange with old lenses, I can't imagine my self as a compact cam user only even if it produce best image quality ever. Buy , try, sell circle is a great fun, you will miss it with G12. _________________ -------------------------------

trev it really depends what you want it for, what need youre trying to fill. for example i have ep2 as quality but compact alternative to 5d and i use it as street cam, but still have option of using many lenses, including some i can interchange w 5d, film and rangefinder cams. i also have p&s sub compact canon s10, for times i can only bring cam that fits in shirt pocket. quality is nice, but not in same league as m4/3, which in turn. is great, but not in same league as 5d!
so, how do you plan to use your new cam? _________________ Epson RD1 + Elmarit 21/2.8; Summarit 50/1.5; Summarit 75/2.5; Elmar-c 90/4; Sankyo Komura 135/2.8, Hektor 135/4.5; Braun Paxina 29 6x6; Photax Boyer Paris; Holga 120 Pano

Whilst the Canon G series are very well made, you shouldn't forget that the sensors are tiny, so any attempt as shallow depth of field is going to be incredibly difficult. I think I read somewhere that in 35mm terms, wide open the lens is an f10 equivalent dof wise. _________________ Graham - Moderator
