The close shots done this lens are really unique. The images seems to pop out of the frame

You're right mmelvis.
Not easy to do as dof is narrow at this distance (1.70m).
Thank you. Smile

Olivier
Nicely done on the close ups...I was wondering could the Tamron be used well for close ups. Cool

Thank you. Very Happy

Mo, please try it.
It's quite strange to make macro at 1.70m distance.
They are not made with use of the doubler. One more thing to try, but I'll definitely need the tripod this time... Laughing

Not as close or as pretty as yours... Very Happy

Nice ones, Moïra.
So, what do you think about it ?
I feel that the focusing ring is very smooth and precise. The clear range finder of the 5D MkII helps a lot. Smile

Wow, your images REALLY bring out the best in the Tamron! What a
GREAT lens to have! A real "sleeper" of a lens. The macro images blow
me away! Shocked

I simply love it,Compact, light and as you say smooth too focus. A very useful lens to have...I must say if it did not come in that "group" buy I may never have bought it on its own and missed out on all this fun... Laughing

Wow, that lens just continues to impress!

Referring to the information at adaptall-2.org, I see that there is a difference in the optical formula between the 55B and 55BB. So, I'm curious -- do you two -- Olivier and Mo -- own the same models or different ones? If different, have you made any comparisons between the two? Adaptall-2.org doesn't have much in the way of specifics.

Doing some googling . . . found this thread over at the Pentax forums. 28 pages long now, and it's been going on for two years. Seems that many of the guys over there prefer the Tamron 55BB:

But the variety is interesting and informative.

BTW, here's an interesting comparison done between the Tamron 500/8 and a Canon 500mm f/4.5 L lens. I thought the Tamron held its own against the excellent Canon optic very well:

Hi Michael
Mine is the 55B.

Thanks a lot Laurence. Very Happy
I'm thinking more and more that the 5D MkII helps a lot to obtain very good image quality.

Michael, mine is also a 55B.
We have a built in lens hood and a detachable tripod mount.
Both are very useful and I prefer to have them directly on the lens.
Thanks a lot for the link Smile

Excellent macro series with a most atypical lens! Factoring in the difficulty
of focusing at that distance you did a superb job! Cool

Moira, very nice, how 'bout some flowers next time? Smile

I thought you guys would be sick of the roses by now. Laughing

Ok a few more not as macro as I wanted...and a bit of wind blowing. Sad

Sorry Olivier I got carried away...there is such good light at the moment... Laughing

Thank you Katastrofo. Smile

Mo, your roses are welcome.
Look at the details in the last one ! Shocked
and others too. I'm astonished of the good bokeh we obtain.
That's a great lens for fun. It gives very good creative results, I think because we see things in very different ways as usual.

All round =D if you want to be paparazzi or so. Very nice pics, indeed.
I think that perspective plays important role here. With such long lens it looks normal to human eyes. Then reduced background is really handy sometimes. Great to see that you can avoid fuzzy bokeh with right angle. But sometimes those donuts looks interesting. Cheers

A 500mm for close ups eh? It does the job quite well.

I'm not as keen on the distance shots as they lack contrast.
