It's a great cam, isn't it?
A good frien of mine once had it. The first copy he had was faulty and he did not like it, but when he got a good copy, he loved it!

What is amazing is that this lens seems to appear in many guises on a lot of 2001 - 2003 cameras, like Ricoh, Canon, Epson, Sony, Exilim etc. including my trusty Canon G2..

It is usually billed as 7-21mm f2 but Canon says f2 -f2.5.. however to settle the matter someone a year or two ago got hold of four different cameras sporting the lens and cut them open.. the result.. yep it's the self same lens.. apparently all the makers adopted it as it IS a good lens.. but not exactly a Carl Zeiss any more that the Schneider that comes on a Samsung is anything other than branding, same as the 'Voigtlanders' on the Cosina made Bessas.. Smile

The G2 and the Sony also have the same sensor, so it's only really the firmware that makes and difference to the image quality?

G2 is certainly a better camera than the s85 and both camera is amazing in their time. I don't care if it is Canon or Zeiss but only the IQ of the lens. Canon, Panasoic, Olympus and Samsung all marking compact camera with fast zoom lens. It is a shame sony don't have any fast zoom compact camera.

There's always the NEX.. lol

And I agree about the lens issue - it's results that count and I loved your pics.. anything with the Sun in excites people from Oregon! lol

Doug

PS I mentioned the G2 as they are cheaper than the Sony to get hold of.. my local Goodwill has at least one a month, never much more than 20 dollars.. Smile
