Hi everyone. My first post here, I hope to become an active member. I've been reading your posts for the last 2 months and it has been such a great source of information.

I'm a complete though keen amateur using Canon 50D as well as quite a few film cameras, Rolleiflex 2.8E, 3.5F, Hasselblad 500C 80mm 2.8 Planar & 250mm Sonnar, Hasselblad ELM 80mm T* 2.8, Mamiya M645J (I know it's simple, but I love this camera) and then mainly Pentax on the 35mm side - ME Super and MX.

After reading up on the forum here I got a M42 adaptor for my 50D (just a few days ago) and have started to test my M42 lenses on the digital body. I'm quite amazed at some of the results so far. I've been testing very casually, but am now keen to test more specifically and write everything down for better comparison.

Anyway, enough about me. I just shot this flower in my garden this afternoon using 2 M42 and one Tamron AF lens. Interesting to see how very different the results were!

Here on Pentacon 50mm 1.8 at 1.8

Here on Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 at 2.0

And here on my Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 - which is such a nice sharp lens, but now the colours just seem lacking compared to the MF lenses?

Hey SirDon -- welcome to the forum! Photo posting capability is disabled in your first post -- an anti-spam feature. Hence my quote of your post.

Were you paying attention to your exposure settings when shooting with the mf lenses? I've found that with my EOS, often I have to dial in some minus EV to my images 'cuz my camera tends to overexpose when using mf lenses. Yours looks as if it might have underexposed a bit with the mf lenses, and this might account for some of the saturation difference you're seeing.

You're right, the last photo does appear to be much lighter, which probably accounts for the loss in saturation. I just used Av and did not compensate at all. I'll remember that for my next tests. I suppose the conditions & exposure has to be as close to the same for all tests to really be able to compare.
