This jumped into my mind tonite:
"Your best 10 primes for under 2K?"
If possible all should be owned by you now or once (but "wish" prime OK if noted)
All different focal lengths
Any mount.
Prices: going rate today (or past year) for a good working copy with clean glass.
Try to stay under 2KUSD--but any list accepted.
Cudos to: Best Value Set
Best Set under 2K
Envious sneers to Best Set Period: but you must own them.
Here is my entry, which I expect to be annihilated.
nFD 20mm 2.8
nFD 24mm f/2
Kiron 28 f/2
FD 35 SSC Concave f/2
Konica 40mm f/1.8
Pentax-SMC 50mm 1.4
Canon FL 55mm F/1.2
Tokina AT-X 90mm F/2.5
Vivitar 105mm Macro (kiron)
Soligar 135mm F/2
Nikon 180mm ED
OK that's 11 damn it (and I left out a nikkor 55mm f/2.8 cause I already had a 55 for low light and two other macros)
Cost for the set today (barring incredible deals) 1350 to 1600
I know I know, it's not very exotic, but this is a real set I've put together in the last 6 weeks with much help here. Now lets see some truly great sets!
Extra extra credit for inexpensive sets.

2k is so arbitrary - let's make it $100, then we're talking real buying skill _________________ http://www.ipernity.com/home/2419272

hehe, you are right. Getting ANY 10 primes of different sizes for under a hundred would make a VERY interesting list.
New Award Category: absolute cheapest usable prime set!
Industar and other russian stuff
Old Kodak
Maybe some sears......

So, you could also get a used EOS 5D.
Ah, only lenses? And exactly 10?
OK, add those:
Zenitar 2.8/16
Steinheil Quinaron 2.8/35
Takumar 2.8/105
And still under €2k!
OK, you want to spend €2k?

Interesting question.
For my taste, we would arrive here:
- Nikkor 20mm F4 Ai (180€)
- Mamiya Sekor SX 28mm F2,8 (100€)
- Voigtländer Ultron 40mm F2,0 SLII (300€)
- Nikkor 50mm F2 Ai (60€)
- Micro Nikkor-P 55mm F3,5 (80€)
- Nikkor 85mm F1,8 AiS (170€) [or the AF-D-version, 250€]
- Mamiya M645 Sekor-C 105-210mm F4,5 ULD (165€)
- Mamiya Sekor SX 135mm F2,8 (50€)
- Nikkor 200mm F4 Ai (100€)
Oh, this is only round 1.200€.
So to really use the budget, one might trade the 85mm F1,8 for the 1,4 version, and add more choice in this focal length region: Nikkor 105mm F2,5 AiS and Leica Summicron-R 90mm F2. With the last one, I don't have any personal experience, but I have seen extremely convincing samples. _________________ http://www.1979fotographie.de/

Nice collections.
I noticed that the more lenses i have, the less i shoot with. So now i think i'm done ( until next year ) and i don't even have 10 lenses
so far in order of prices :
ZE 50mm Planar 431€
1.2 Nikkor, about 350€
C/Y Planar 50mm 200 something €
that was the "high" category, now let's go a bit down by 200€
Jupiter 9 94€
Biotar 66€
Helios 77 50€ new
not cheap enough ? well this is my best :
Takumar 55mm 25€ ( from this forum, Irish seller )
Until i buy , surely one day the 85 ZE Planar, those are my treasures.
Notice that this late alone would cost about the same as the lenses i mentioned, and whose are very good !! _________________ Happy owner and user of :

Yeah I love that list!
BUT prices should be "going rate for working copy" and this means CLEAN GLASS---comestic nicks are fine. Based on that critera the cheapest recent ebay sale is....
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-Nikkor-85mm-f-2-0-AI-Lens-/110618644833?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item19c1629161
there is another for like 90, but it has marks on the glass.
That said this has to be the cheapest complete list so far.
Many other really interesting lists
Now those nikons ARE NOT CHEAP currently--well some are 60-150, but alot of em go for over 200, or 3 for that matter.
EG here is the cheapest 24mm I could find
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-Nikkor-24mm-f2-8-non-Ai-wide-manual-lens-vtg-/170571620971?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item27b6dc626b
and the cheapest 20mm 3.5
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-20mm-f-3-5-Nikkor-Lens-/220703636436?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item3362f63bd4
I'd love to see a complete nikon list for under 1500 with the defined critera of condition----but maybe it is still possible choosing the slower but still good lenses. _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L*

Some great stuff there BUT
as stated "all different focal lengths"
everybody gets 1 50mm!!!!
BUt you can put in a "wish" lens--one you want and can document the price--so long as it's noted as "wish"
That way everybody can get to 10, which is pretty fun and interesting. _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L* |

Yes, the prices I got the lenses are normal, never had real bargains but I believe they were fair prices. Definitely not overpriced but normal prices that represent their current commercial value.
I must say that I had real hard time picking a favorite 50mm Zuiko between 50mm f3.5 Macro and 50mm f/1.4.
But I picked the Macro because it so damn sharp! Excellent lens in every way. The picture below is actually cropped!
