What nice colors!!!

It has a lot better color's rendering than my 44-3.

I have read that the chrome is the best of the helios 44s, and it seems to be.

Congrats Attila.

You are aware that for the MMZ chrome Helios this means your lens was made in 1965 correct?

The zebra Helios was MMZ production also. His, I would bet, is marked with a serial beginning in 9 or 0, meaning 1969 or 1970.

I am now, thanks for the enlightenment on the serial numbering for year of manufacture. I'd take it that my chrome Helios 40 with SN starting 60 is 1966 manufacture then.

Actually in the Helios 40's case, the year of production was 1960. This is because KMZ worked on a serial system of the first two numbers being the year it was manufactured with the exception of "pre-production" batches that started with 0, 00, or 000.

The zebra Helios was only produced by MMZ. They worked on a different system with the first serial number being the year in the 60s decade (4xxxxxx - 1964, 5xxxxxx - 1965, and so on). I assumed your chrome helios 44 was MMZ because no helios was produced in 1950. Zenit prototypes did not come out until about '51.
