I got my eyes on a Pentacon Auto 28mm/2.8 but find it hard to get information about the lens. Any ideas?

It is not the 29mm, which I had a copy of before. This 28 looks wider in front, larger then the 50/1.8.

It is not the Prakticar which I find info about when Googling.

I think it is M42, but not certain.

The front ring says "Multicoating".

Could be a late Pentacon branded Sigma perhaps.

I have one (Pentacon 28/2.8 electric) - came with a Praktica VLC2. I am rather sure it is a Sigma lens "for Praktica", it has not much in common with the 29mm/2.8.

Mine has fungus, so I can't present you serious samples.

Ok, thanks. Could be fun to play with perhaps Smile

I think the wide angle Sigma 24 - 28mm lenses of that period (1976/1978) have a rather positive reputation. So yes, it may be fun if you get one without fungus, other then mine.
