I've used a lot of different (mf) lenses in the past. Most of them occasionally give very good results, for example the Vivitar S1 28-85/2.8, the Rikenon XR 50/2.0 and the Takumar 35/2.0.
Some lenses however, are consistently great performers in my opinion: the results never seem to disappoint! Here are a few of my personal favorites:
- Tokina AT-X 90/2.5 macro
- Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 AI-s
- Tokina 17mm f/3.5 SL

I'm curious about your opinions!

I know your meaning! Some lenses even bad photos look great. More lens than I have talent Laughing

Macro-Takumar 1:4/50
S-M-C Takumar 1:1.8/85

I agree.
From my collection the most constant performers are:

* Leica Summicron 2/50
* Nikkor-H 1.8/85
* Leica Elmar 4/180

But I have several other lenses that almost always perform very well and if they don't give a nice shot, chances are high that it was my fault. Wink

So far, the ones I would call consistent performers are:

M42 mount:
Helios-44
Jupiter 11A, Jupiter 37A
Super-Takumar 50/1.4

Tamron adaptall-2 mount:
SP 90/2.5 macro

The main weaknesses I find in other lenses are sharpness wide open and vulnerability to CA.

Love the Nikkor-H! (Leica's I cannot afford)

Yes, there are some lenses that just feel right and deliver images that tickle my fancy. Keeping it to a few...

Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 Close Focus (has moved ahead of my Flektogon 35mm f/2.4)
Vivitar 90mm Series 1 f/2.5 by Tokina
Komura 135mm f/2.8
Meyer Orestegor 300mm f/4

Just a cherry picks from my top lenses list from other thread:

CZJ "APO" Tessar 4.5/40
Voigtländer Color-Ultron 1.8/50
Leica Summicron-R 2/50
Pentax-M 4/50 Macro
CZJ Pancolar 1.8/80
Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit 2.8/100
Voigtländer APO Lanthar 3.5/90
Leica APO-Telyt 3.4/180
Voigtländer APO Lanthar 4/180

If there is something wrong with the final photo, I can blame only myself...
