$40 with the shipping for the real deal is a bit much, but I'm a little leery of just putting any knockoff adapter on my *ist. I've been looking at all the ones I can find online trying to decide if any of them might be safe enough to use but I can't make up my mind. Suggestions? I'd like to avoid Ebay if possible. Should I or should I not remove any spring on them? Seems some people do that to make them safer?

Thanks!

SRB Griturn, a UK company that manufacture a whole range of photographic equipment and adaptors, make a cheapish and excellent M42 adaptor.

The ship internationally as well.

I have no connection to SRB, but I've used them a lot and had no problems with them or their adaptors.
