Hi all,
I took this shot in May this year at Kirkcaldy Harbour in Scotland. Silver FX software was used to bring out the texture. Used a Canon 350D with Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AI. What do you think?

Great image Bob,

i am a sucker for dark images though...

The processing is great, it really adds a gritty feel to the subject.

It look like a lobster boat.
I like the conversion.

It does look very film-like! What settings did you use in SFX?

Martin,
this is a bit embarassing but being the cheapskate that I am, I only downloaded the free 2 week trial version of Silver FX & just played around with the various sliders etc until I got this image. I simply cant remember what I did! I do know that this software is worth every cent & I will fork out & buy it soon.

Nice angle. I like the way you're looking down on it. very moody and haunted.

Very moody and haunted indeed!

What do you think of Silver FX for bw conversion?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
I would recommend Silver FX to anyone who like mono conversions. It is simply amazing software. You can try it for free for 2 weeks.
Here is the original colour shot for you to compare. Chalk & cheese!

As you can see, the original shot was quite boring & slightly out of focus. I took this shot quickly while walking along a pier with some other people. The only thing I liked about the original shot was the angle & after converting it to mono, it now hangs proudly on my wall in a frame! The software really pulls out the texture, even from areas where it is invisible in the colour version.
regards,
Robert
