Nikon PB4 Bellows + LF lens for Tilt? Need Infinity focus

I want to get infinity focus on a set of Nikon PB4 bellows so I can use the tilt/shift function. Supposedly I need to extend the bellows ato at least 60mm for this to happen, and Nikons flange distance is 46.5 for a total of 106.5. Seems there are some LF lenses that have flange to focal distances of about this much or slightly more. Would I be able to achieve infinity focus with any of these? Is this a good cost saving route? I want to use the bellows for both wider stuff with infinity focus and macro photography.

Use enlarger lenses >100mm focal length and a M39-Nikon adaptor and you're all set. Componon-S 100mm for instance is excellent or Rodenstock Rodagons (105mm, 135mm), too. Also fine are EL-Nikkors 105mm + 135mm esp. the older silver/black versions. The adaptor you need is called NIKLEI and is made by Novoflex. There is an original Nikon adaptor for that but usually very expensive and hard to find. Have a look at my macrolenses site, many of these lenses are listed there.

Yea I actually remember inquiring awhile back to you directly about a similar but less ambitious project. I did read the book you recommended so I think I have a much grasp on macro photography now.

Still though, with something like a 135mm El Nikkor isnt that still going to be a short telephoto on FF 35mm? I guess I can live with that but I was hoping for a wider solution

T/S only works at infinity? I did not know that.

Tilt and Shift should work anytime, I just want to be able to use it with infinity focus

El Nikkor seems to be the route to go

Do you already have the bellows or are you just working things out, planning things?

A 135mm lens remains a 135mm lens, regardless of the format the lens was intended for. The image circle may be very big, like with lenses for 8x10", but if you use a FF sensor the angle of view will still be the same because the sensor only makes use of the small central portion. The size of the sensor determines the 'crop factor', not the size of the image circle of the lens - please remember that. It seems to be a difficult to grasp subject for many people because these questions keep coming back.

Another way to utilize tilt or shift function would be using medium format lenses, especially those from Pentacon Six, reasonable quality and cheap prices. There are adapters available that can provide tilt or shift ( not by the same adapter though ) functions, on Nikon or Canon camera body. With a 50mm wideangle (for Pentacon), you can have standard view on a FF camera, couple with a much wider image circle to move around. It is also possible to hand hold the camera in pictures taking, while the bellow would be pretty much limited to a tripod. Have fun searching.

What kind of adapters are these? Are they expensive and could I make one myself? Tilt is definitely my main priority, I could care less about shift at this point.

Arax Photo makes nice adapters for a reasonable price: $125 for the tilt adapter.

Cheers!

Holycrap, thats a goldmine!

Whats the difference between the normal one and the Nikon F adapter? Does the Nikon allow nikon lenses on nikon bodies (but only for macro?)

How cheap are these lenses?! Im gonna order one of these tonight...looks too good to be true!!
