Interesting to see a picture with this lens, I'm considering buying it (especially for concert photography).

Thanks Very Happy

Ivo, a search on this forum will lead to very good samples.
I bought it new in Eos mount and glued a programmable AF chip, as Henri did (aka hinnerker).

It's very good, sharp even at f1.4.
Only one thing ennoyes me : the mini focusing distance is too long fot me with 1 meter. It doesn't bother at all for portrait or walkarounf, but for proxi-photo and flowers shooting, I prefer to be closer.

PS : @ Attila : it seems that I'm not always warned when a new message comes in in a topic I'm watching at. Is it a known issue ?

great portrait, impressive wide open!

Very nice!

With such a narrow depth of field, I would have prefered to see the focus fall on the eye that has contact with the camera though.

It was shot on the catch.
I agreed with the focus on the left eye.
Then I noticed I got the right one in focus through the hair and decide to keep it. It makes this shot original to me.

Poilu, I agree with you. Wide open at 1.4, this lens is very good.

Very nice photo! Love it!

I don't know how much you paid for it.
My solution for a 1,4 85mm lens was:
Get a used Contax Zeiss from eBay. Excellent condition, 500 Euros.
There are a lot of copies for sale, many of them in really good condition.
I also got the original leather pouch, in the same condition it left the factory.

I got it there :

This is a well known online shop here in France. Maybe they have international deliveries, as I can see few flags in the upper right corner : Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland.

Great portrait. Is this manual aperture as well?

Sorry Martin, if I don't understand your question.
It is a MF lens, entirely manual and I added a chip which gives AF confirm and the ability to enter in the chip the max aperture and the focal length of the lens.
By this way, in full manual mode, I am able to set the speed and the aperture using the 5D² body's rings and have them in the exifs.
I have to open the lens at f1.4, then choose the aperture on the camera's body so that exposure is measured, then I close the lens' ring to the aperture chosen.

Ok, you've answered my question. To put it simply I was asking if you can set the aperture in-camera, but I see you cannot.

Well, in fact with this programmable chip I can set the aperture in the camera, which I can't with other AF confirm chips preprogrammed for only a given aperture.
So, I can meter the light like an Eos AF lens.
This is how I set things :
- set the lens diaph ring wide open, so here f1.4, by turning the ring on the lens
- choose the speed and the aperture in camera
- memorize the exposition measure
- set the lens ring to the aperture choosen in-camera by turning the ring on the lens.

Cheers

this procedure is unusable for me, it only generate mistake and bad exposure
I don't understand why this chip cannot just measure when I push the shutter
to open aperture, measure then keep button pushed while setting back aperture... is Chinese for me
with the EMF chip, I let the aperture at the min on body and set the aperture on the lens
it doesn't record aperture but at least I get correct exposure
