Canon Pellix was a "fixed mirror" SLR. Instead of a moving mirror, the Pellix and Pellix QL used a fixed beam splitter. Canon exploited that feature with this compact, semi wide, non-retrofocus lens. The lens could be used on Canons with mirror lockup but there was no accessory viewfinder to match the focal length.

The beam splitter was later used on Canon and Nikon high speed motorized cameras, then revived again with the Canon EOS RT film camera. Most recently, Sony has introduced it.

The first canon with fixed mirror stoped to be produced because canon lost a judicial question with pathé who used the system first and had it patented.
The time goes by ...........and the patent went down.

From the 90's I never saw a good copy of the cam, all the mirrors were very scratches.
