Hi,
while I was in San Francisco last week, my Helios arrived at home. Took it out for a quick test this morning. No PP, straight from the camera as RAW, converted to JPG with default settings in LR3.

thanks everyone, for the kind words!
yeah - I already love this lens. I think I still have to learn how to get the best from it, but it's very promising so far!
Are there big differences between the different types, like the -2, -4, -6 etc? Is it worth (besides having a complete collection) to look for other Helios 44s than the one I have? |

I'm surprised your 44-2 only has six blades, mine has eight. Maybe yours is a later one? The experts will chime in on that. I've read in other Helios posts that the 44-3 is considered by some to be the best combination of sharpness and bokeh, but may have infinity issues with adapters - depending on when it was made. The 44M-7 is supposedly the sharpness, but maybe with not as good bokeh. Some of this subjective, I'm sure. I've purchased both the 44-3 and 44M-7 to do mt own comparisons with my 44-2, but haven't received them yet. _________________ Regards,

Yes and no.
The 44-2 has the biggest "soul". Its unique, the bokeh I mean.
The 44M is kinda more dull like. I think almost every version was a upgrade in resolution and MC.
BUT ! The 44-2 element is more covered, so it kinda has this built in shade. I prefer my 44-2 (KMZ version) to my 44M-4 any time. _________________ The future is analogue.

Sorry, makaistd, I misread. Then if you like what you are seeing from the m-4, you can move towards m-7 for resolution, or towards 44-2 for swirl in bokeh. _________________ Regards,
