Bit of a sad story really. I've been exploring some of the cow paddocks near home. I don't know why this part of the fence is a death trap.

As I was walking along this fence there was actually a second wallaby caught as well. It had one leg twisted in the wire and it was still alive Crying or Very sad
Through its struggling it had worn away it's skin on its leg to the bone.

It was barely alive, I think it must have been there for days like that. Of course I did the only thing that could have been done and gave it a quick end. Very sad.

The photos are taken with a Helios 44m on a Nikon D40x with narrow DOF. Can't remember exactly but from f/2 - f/4. I'm really loving this lens at the moment and I tend to have it on the camera most of the time as a walkaround lens.

The one I've photographed was long dead, and god knows how it got caught like that. It must have tried to jump the fence and got both feet caught and flipped over the fence in an arc, got it's head caught through the other way and struggled like that.

RIP little guy.

That third shot is quite moving - excellent composition (or cropping) Wink
